Penguin Splash Slot Machine

This slot has an artic feel, and includes 5 penguins on the left of the screen which will dance and clap when you win. I’d put this game firmly into the ‘simple and cute’ category – though there are a couple of nice features which liven things up while you play. What you’ll definitely get with this game is the smooth and entertaining game-play which all Rabcat titles enjoy. There is also the potential for a decent sized win via the free spins round which comes with a 2x multiplier.

Penguins are a popular slot theme, with games like Icy Wonders by Netent and Penguins in Paradise by Amaya.

In this Rabcat game, the 5 dancing penguins which sit on the left of the screen are the main attraction. They turn and waggle their tails, raise flippers, hop from foot to foot and stare out to sea while you play. The bigger the win the more penguins dance and the more active their moves. This does add some charm to the game, especially when combined with the happy jazz sounds when those wins come in. Reel symbols are on a plain white background, though these are quite bland compared to some Rabcat slots. There is a walrus, polar bear, seal, killer whale, fish and penguin – as well as the different playing card symbols on icebergs.

The pool below the reels looks very realistic, and this has a role to play when you trigger the bonus game. One or more penguins will jump from the left into the pool, and re-emerge on the reels – before your free spins get started.

Setup and Play for Penguin Splash

This slot has 25 win-lines, though it does allow you to select fewer if you wish. You can play for just 1c per line, or a minimum of 25c per spin. There is an auto-play option which is set for a default of 20 spins. This includes the ‘fast gameplay’ option too, which is super-fast. After each win you can hit a ‘gamble’ button. This is a simple double-or-nothing game, where you choose red or black on the flip of a playing card.

In normal play the symbol you’ll want to see is the Killer Whale (well, unless you are a penguin!). This has a top prize of 2,000 coins for 5 on a win line, with 200 coins for 4. The polar bear is next at 100 coins for 5, with the walrus (50) and seal (25) next, the playing cards make up the smaller but still important wins.

There is a wild symbol in play in the form of a fish (which swims with a suitable sound effect when it makes part of a winning combo). This substitutes for all of the regular symbols above, though not for the scatter / bonus symbol. That is the emperor penguin, and will award you up to 25 free spins if you get 3+ anywhere on the reels.

Penguin Splash Bonus Round

When you land 3 or more of the penguins on the reels, a sequence begins where one of the dancing penguins on the left jumps into the pool and re-emerges to climb up to the reels. If it shares a spot with a penguin symbol, then the free spins wins are doubled. Other than that, this is a very simple bonus game; you get up to 25 spins – which run through quickly with a fun piano-led track in the background. Your wins are then shown (free spins + regular wins from the spin which triggered this) and you go back the main game.

While this slot could have done with something a little extra to make it more engaging, this is in keeping with the ‘cute yet simple’ overall design. The side-penguins dance like crazy during those free spins - and the one which jumped into the pool kind of sneaks back to his place from behind the reels.

A Game To Give You Happy Feet

Solid game-play and a light hearted feel is bound to appeal to players who enjoy the lower-intensity games. The dancing penguins on the left of the reels are the key factor that makes this slot entertaining. Without those, it would be on the dull side. I liked the free spins game, though the pool below the reels did look like it might play a more prominent part in this than it ended up doing. This is a lower volatility game, with plenty of smaller wins over the 25 win lines to keep your bankroll turning over while you wait for the bonus games to start.
