Pillaging Pirates Slot Machine

When it comes to themes, Genesis Gaming appears to have all bases covered, from horror to 1024 ways to play, they have just about every game for every theme. A fine example of their flexibility is Pillaging Pirates, a roguish slot machine that braves the seas in search of treasure. Heading into storms as well as enjoying tranquil waters, this real cash slot has everything that nautical lovers out there are looking for.

Moreover, it presents itself in a matrix that depicts well known pirates from stories and history, like Blackbeard. This devilish gent terrorised waters during the 1600 and 1700s, though little of his life before pirating appears to be known. He’s starred in many films and TV adaptations, with one of the most memorable being in Pirates of the Caribbean. The fact that Genesis have created a game that grounds us in the past as well as the present, makes for a more enthralling experience.

A Rare Find

You know when you’ve discovered something of value when you can’t find another like it anywhere else. Pillaging Pirates has all the hallmarks of Genesis Gaming, or so we thought, yet when it came down to finding other slots like this one, we actually struggled. Even finding ones that had a 100 winlines seemed to be a challenge, demonstrating that while the content of pirating is popular, none out there are quite like this swashbuckling title.

It isn’t all bad news though, for as we searched we discovered that other slots available were just as rare, like White Buffalo. Sporting only 25 winlines inside a 3x5 grid, this is a hunting expedition unlike that which you’re going to experience out on the open waters. But what’s pirating without learning new skills?

Free Spins Be a Foot

As this is a Genesis activity, it will surprise none of you veteran players to learn that the free spins are the only bonuses of the game; the brand is renowned for doing this. Sometimes we enjoy their dedication to the cause, and others we hope they’ll expand their horizons. Fortunately for us, this time it’s the former. The reason being is that this is a random event feature, meaning no amount of winning combos are going to help.

Frustrating though it is to have fate taken out of your hands, it certainly makes for a more intense and curious game. You never know when you’ll win, if ever. Let’s pretend for a second that you have got the spins, what exactly do you get? Sadly, there’s only 8 rounds on the house here, and while some of the icons can change into Blackbeard, the morphing trick has been done in Genesis games before. Still, 1,000 credits per Blackbeard isn’t so bad.

Arrr, Matey

With a slot machine like Pillaging Pirates, there’s a lot of misses that we have to endure, one obvious factor being the lack of depth with the appearance, and so we turn to other slots for help. There’s a lot of pirate themed games out there, from various brands, and so if you’re looking for an adventure on the seas, you needn’t look very far.

One we’d highly recommend is Exploding Pirates from Spinomenal. It’s combination of interactive animated tiles and free spins make it a medium variance title that looks the part. The only real contrast you’ll notice is that you’ll only have 25 winlines to play with, fixed, whereas in Pillaging Pirates there’s 1024 ways to win.

Dusty Maps

Before we leave you to play for yourselves, we want to have a chat about the overall style of the game, as it’s typical of the brand, and yet unique in style to their other titles. It would seem that Genesis Gaming have a knack for bringing those two components together to create an attractive interface.

Here users will look upon a dusty looking grid, probably created by paper from a discarded treasure map, while the sea and islands are stretched out behind them. All of which is done in a 3D animated effect, like what you’d see from Dreamworks. Even though we think the design is well constructed, we actually think that a more illustrated matrix would have worked better with the gritty authenticity of the game’s theme.

Hanging Up Your Hat

Pirating may be the life you choose, but eventually you’ll need to hang up your hat and call it a day. That may be today, tomorrow or next year, but whenever it happens, you’ll be sad to see the back of Pillaging Pirates. When we first loaded up this title we didn’t reckon much to the style or design, but once we played we realised the beauty of its simplicity.
