The Job Slot Machine

If you’re a sucker for Mission Impossible style entertainment, you’re about to fall hook, line and sinker for The Job, a crime inspired game that’ll unlock your inner thief. In terms of originality, Nucleus Gaming have covered this theme before, but from a very different perspective, meaning that this feels as exclusive as the next title. A rarity in this market, though not if you stick with this company, who seems to keep turning out original title, one after the other.

As with all their games, the execution of the graphics is of a high quality, with animated images included in the grid. What is more, you get a high variance level to interact with here, especially when it comes to the feature of the game, which involves breaking and entering. But don’t worry if you should miss out on this, as there’s plenty of other dirty work to get your hands on.

Old School Approach

Normally when we say old school, we mean that there’s something vintage about a slot machine, but in terms of The Job, we’re talking about the style the brand has gone for. This slot doesn’t feel as new as some of their other slots, with an almost 1990s-esque filter on the images. Nonetheless, the result is still of the same exceptional quality that Nucleus Gaming has built upon. Furthermore, it actually adds more depth to the game, as it feels more postmodern and therefore more intriguing when you play.

There’s lit up panels, flashing lights, and interactive computer codex entries to engage with, which give it that high tech dynamic; when you make a win, it looks like you’re being given a new assignment, as the reels become highlighted. We like the effort placed here, but we do feel that more could have been done to drag this game into the more modern end of the gaming market. However, we guess that those looking for a happy medium between retro and modern gaming will find it when playing this.

What'll It Cost Me?

Playing a real cash slot for real involves money, and with this particular game you’re going to need at least 30 credits if you’re going to step away from the play for fun mode. As a result, this makes this a more high end game than others on the market, due to the fact it takes more coins to get started. That being said, we wouldn’t say that the starting fee is unreasonable when you can win as much as 500 for the top paying tile, just by playing with the lowest amount.

Setting your totals are easy, for you have to determine the value of the coins you play with, followed by how many on each active line you’d like; there’s 30 lines, making this a heavy hitter. If you want to reduce your fee, but have reached the lowest bet amount available, you may want to decrease the number of paylines you have. It’ll make the game more volatile, but it does mean the pay-in becomes more affordable. The minimum you can wager is 0.60, while you can go up to 150.00.

Cutting Glass

If you’re proactive, you’ll have probably loaded up the paytable to have a look at what type of rewards you can get, which include the Glass Cutter Feature. This is a base game feature, but it’s still a bonus as it can give you instant wins. For that to happen, you’ll need to line up a minimum of three of the icons, you can get as many as five but you'll still only be able to select one of the images on screen.

This is a pick me style round, where you choose one of the symbols and them get given one of three outcomes: free games, the bonus round or instant cash. Out of the three, the bonus round is the most important as it usually takes a lot more work to trigger that special, however that also means the likelihood of you activating that prize is greatly reduced. You don’t get something for nothing around here.

We’re Breaking In

The big main feature is the Vault Bonus Round, triggered when you get over three of the golden vault symbols. Just like in other games from the brand, like Big Boss and Seer’s Crystal, this is interactive and involves a lot more engagement than the rest of the title. Here you get to actually try and rob the bank, with your selection of entry and how you proceed throughout the job, deciding your level of success.

Sadly though, we never got to see this side of The Job for ourselves, which probably says a lot about the difficulty you’re going to face when you play this slot machine. We’re not saying you won’t activate the bonus round, we’re simply saying you shouldn’t go expecting it to unlock in just a few spins. You’re going to need to work hard to get it, and have the money to do so.

Are You a Repeat Offender?

When it comes to The Job, you have to ask yourself whether the thug life is for you, or whether you want to take a break from all the thieving. These are morally ambiguous games, and while it’s all comical, some users prefer to leave the life of crime behind and move forward to better pastures.

What we will say though, is that this is another sterling game from Nucleus Gaming, going to show that there’s no end to what they can do. Being a prominent brand isn’t easy, but they appear to do it with relative ease, which helps put minds at rest, not to mention encourages future playthroughs. If you’re in the mood to be bad, but don’t want any lasting damage to your rep, this is the way to let off that steam.
