Yet another slot which is centred upon the ever-dependable theme of animals, Ruffled Up is a compact yet deep and expansive progressive video slot from the good folk at Habanero software. Possessing the standard number of 5 reels and an impressive 243 paylines (got to love those progressives!), the game holds a simple premise and inspiration – making it all the more enjoyable to the impartial or non-committal player.

Colourful, immensely happy and complete with some brilliant and very high definition graphics; Ruffled Up features some (very interestingly) alternative design decision which act to immediately set it apart from the pack. For starters, the reels which are central to the game are transparent, with backgrounds that chance frequently between sunny skies to overcast, moody tones. Though a minor detail, this ever-changing background allows for a greater affinity between player and game, ultimately elongating the amount of time players can stand sticking with one game. Very clever indeed.

Betting Range

Prior to taking off with your selected bird-on-wire, players must first set their desired betting range. By clicking on the Bet Level +/- button, you’re offered the option of placing a stake anywhere between 0.01 and 20 – a decent range which should act to attract players of all experience levels and betting preferences. For starters, the Big Yellow Bird is the games wild and, as is all so often the case with wild, can substitute for all others symbols exclusive the scatter. The wild can and will only appear on reels 2 and 3 and when used to form winning combinations, will result in a much more lucrative pay out.

The Blue Bird with the umbrella (who knows why he’s got an umbrella!) is the games scatter and is prone to flying off of the line before he can be involved with a win. To this end, the Blue Bird may only form scatter wins, which to be fair are multiplied by bet level and can climb to a pretty hefty size. When a player bags themselves 3 or more, for instance, they will be rewarded with a host of free spins - the exact number of which is determined by the number of scatters.

Additional Features

The primary feature worth knowing about outside of all of the usual symbols and functions, is the games integrate progressive jackpot. It can be won at the end of any session and is completely random. The in-game counter constantly displays the growing amount on offer and is a welcome addition to an entertaining, yet ultimately not all that lucrative game.

Further to this, there is also a Gamble feature which offers players the chance to double their winnings at the end of each game. All they must do in order to achieve this is select a card higher than dealers. Hardly groundbreaking stuff, but classic in nature and yet another way in which the game bolsters its potential as a real payer.

To round things up, what Ruffled Up offers is a fairly standard slot in terms of mechanics and offerings, housed in a forward thinking and progressive theme.
