Romanus Slot Machine

Enjoy the luxury of the life of a Roman emperor and live up to the challenge of being at the end of a huge empire.

Such is the premise of Romanus, a video slot game designed by Simbat that will challenge even the most experienced of players. The game features many different bet levels and a progressive gameplay that will let you take some extra risks on the path to the ultimate jackpot.

Do you have what it takes to be the head of the empire? Read our full review of Romanus and figure it out yourself, with a little help concerning the game rules and other subtleties.

Back at the Palace

Romanus is quite similar to Roman Palace, another Simbat creation inspired by the Roman empire.

Here too, the game has a true arcade vibe with simple but attractive graphics. The two reel sets are nicely framed by the tall marble columns of the palace, while the remaining space is occupying by interactive paytables and several credit meters.

This crowded game screen might seem a little intimidating for beginners, but the truth is that Romanus is easier to play than you may think, as we will see in our next section.

Eyes on the Prize

Romanus features no less than 5 different bet levels in total. We will start with the base game here in order to give you the best start possible on the reels.

You will begin on the lower reel set, which contains 3 reels and 1 payline that crosses them horizontally right in the middle. To win, you need to make sure that specific symbol combinations land onto that paylines and trigger cash prizes. Each spin costs 1 credit, which will be taken from your stash each time you start a new turn. You will also notice the hold buttons below each reel; they are here to hold a reel into position for the next spin, which will also be triggered automatically whenever you are 1 symbol short to a win. After a win, all payouts are automatically gambled and, with a little luck, doubled instantly.

You can also turn to the autospin mode in order to let the reels spin loose for as long as you like and speed up the process a little. You will only have access to the base game once you start playing Romanus, but after a few wins the gameplay will expand and become more interesting. Let’s see how high the stakes can get once you begin the game.

A Classic Paytable, With a Few Surprises

Romanus has all the usual reel symbols that made arcade slot games popular in the first place.

The basic paytable contains a handful of fruits such as cherries, lemons and grapes, followed by other casino classics such as red sevens and bells. You can expect win stretching from 4 to 200 credits at once for a combination of 3 bells on the payline.

The soldier symbol is a little special here. Unlike all the other reel symbols, this one does not really care about the payline at all. As a result, you can score triple soldier combinations diagonally as well. Each of them awards a prize of 20 credits. But after accumulating some wins on the base game, it is time to move on to something a little more exciting.

Levelling Up

As promised before, Romanus also features 4 extra bet levels that are played on the upper reel sets and with a different paytable.

The levels are called bet 5, bet 10, bet 20 and bet 40. Each bet will cost just as many credits, which will come from your initial wins on the base game. Therefore, you need to have accumulated enough credits in the first place in order to start betting at a higher level. Higher bets are placed on 5 paylines, while you can choose to store your credits in any of the counters available on screen.

The rewards span between 40 and 200 credits. Pay also attention to the small number that appear in between the reels. They can award you nudges, or the possibility to give a reel a gently push forward and, perhaps, land and extra win.

An Emperor’s Life

Romanus is a fun and challenging slot game that will require perseverance and luck at the same time.

Take a moment to consider what level of risk you are willing to take and examine the different bet levels before you start spinning the reels.
