Just by looking at the title, you probably figured that this game feature leprechaun and rainbows, carrying a theme similar to a certain famous breakfast cereal. Such an assertion would be entirely 100% correct – the title pretty much tells you exactly what to expect. It appears to be a deliberate decision on the artist’s part not to veer even close to Lucky Charms territory in regards to the looks, as I’m sure the people at Kellogg’s would not be so happy to see their leprechaun’s mug on a video slots game.
We wouldn’t be surprised if this game was conceived after a particularly wild St. Patrick’s Day rager. This is because basically all the Irish stereotypes are present here, including leprechauns, horseshoes, four-leaf clovers, a pot o’ gold, and various other supposedly lucky Irish symbols. There’s a reason you don’t see games featuring broken mirrors, black cats, and the number 13 all in one game, because slots play is all about good luck.
In spite of the trippy background and rather blinding white backdrop on the reels, the nice use of contrast in the interface makes the buttons stand out against the maelstrom of colour all the more. We thought that it was a pretty good design decision on the part of the developers all things considered. The Celtic music that plays in the background is really catchy too and is certainly one the game’s key positives.
Enough about colours – let’s examine the technical side of things. Rainbow Charms employs a standard 5x3 reel system, while it also implements a hefty 30 paylines, which is rather high for a NeoGames production. You can bet anywhere from 0.1 to 20 whole units of currency, allowing you to spin up to a huge 600-coins per spin.
There are scatter and wild symbols in play. The interface below allows you to adjust the various in-game settings, such as the number of active paylines, the coin denomination, the pay table and the auto-spin feature. You’ll notice the “GAMBLE/GAMBLE 50%” feature makes a return in this game too, which I’ll get to below.
Living up to its moniker, Rainbow Charms boasts a base jackpot of 10,000 coins, meaning that on a maximum spin you can win up to 200,000 coins. That easily offsets the lack of a progressive jackpot. As if that weren’t enough, there are also free spin opportunities as well (the pot o’ gold symbol). For the risk-takers out there, every spin gives you the chance to go double or nothing (or 1.5 or nothing). Every time you get a winning spin, you have the choice to gamble your earnings, giving you a 50/50 chance to double it or lose everything. The 50% option lets you bet just half, in case you opt to be more cautious about what you wager.
Rainbow Charms might look like a flight of fancy, but its bright, jovial appearance belies the serious earning potential that lies beneath its candy-coloured surface. All of the Irish stereotypes aside, Rainbow Charms is designed to appeal to the hardcore gamblers out there while still offering plenty to keep more casual gamers engaged. The huge jackpot, free spins, and the option to risk every win to earn more makes this a game replete with chances to walk away with your own pot of (metaphorical) gold.
Now, we will admit that the game’s brightness could have been toned down a bit, and the large amounts of white and other bright colours might get tiring after a while. But considering how much Rainbow Charms has to offer, you might just find that it isn’t a big deal.
