The game is set in an obviously haunted castle, complete with dark hallways and cobwebs hanging from the marble columns. The reels stand in the middle of a vast gothic hall, with a coffin lying on one side and a woman resembling a member of the Adams family standing on the other. There are not many details besides these few elements, but they are enough to create the creepy atmosphere the developers were looking for.

The music, ominous and chilling, adds a lot to this atmosphere and the final result is simple but efficient. Haunting and far more effecgive than similarly themed games like Scary Rich 3!

The settings of Dark Spin are simple and will have no trouble wrapping your head around them.

You have five reels and a maximum of 15 paylines to bet on, and most parameters of the game are customisable. Hit the Gear icon located in the upper left-hand corner of the game screen to be taken to the settings menu – a bloody parchment – which features several (+) and (-) switches. Use them to activate or deactivate paylines, as well as to set the value of your bet per line, for instance. Remember that the amount of cash you will win depends on both the nature of the symbols lining up on activated paylines and the size of your wager. Taking risks can pay! And the Bet Max button on the main screen is there to let you go all-in with a single click. Otherwise, when you feel ready, hit the red Spin button hovering over the coffin to set the reels into motion – and cross your fingers!

After each successful spin you have the option to play a double-or-nothing mini game by clicking the Gamble button. If you guess correctly the colour that the mysterious liquid will take (blue or red), your wins will be doubled! A wrong guess will end the mini game and take your new coins away, so think twice before you click. Another way to play the game is to use the Autoplay function to let the reels spin for a predetermined number of spins. This is the perfect solution if you do not want to be interrupted and prefer enjoying the action while seating comfortably.

The paytable of Dark Spin contains both classic symbols and horror-inspired icons, which are worth more.

The first half of the menu features card-inspired symbols ranging from number 9 to the Ace. They come in a classic gothic font and do not pay much, but on the other hand they will appear quite frequently on the reels.

The second half is filled with the promised horror icons: a gothic Castle, a colony of Bats flying under the full moon, a Book open next to a candle, a creepy Door Knocker and an obvious Vampire. These symbols have larger payouts, and the two last ones bring even more than just money to the table.

The Door Knocker mentioned earlier is indeed a Wild game symbol, able to replace any basic symbol and therefore to help create extra winning combinations.
