Central Square
During base game spins, regular symbols and modifier symbols can land on the central square. Modifier symbols include:
Inserted: This is the Wild symbol, substituting for any symbols except multipliers.
Unchain: Unlocks Chained Multipliers on the reels and remains sticky until the end of the cascading sequence.
Pull: Removes low-paying symbols from the grid on the next cascade.
This central square really helped add some tension and unpredictability to the base game. It resets between cascades, and I scored some big wins when Inserted symbols appeared during consecutive tumbles.
Multipliers
Chained Multipliers with values of 1x-100x can appear on the reels surrounding the central square when you play The Wheel of Fear online. These multipliers become active if the Unchain symbol lands at the same time. When this happens, the locked symbols turn into Unchained Multipliers, and are added to the Pain Holder above the reels. Collecting between one and four Multipliers awards the combined value. Collecting five or more launches The Wheel feature.
It was tricky to land Multipliers and the Unchain symbol at the same time, but I found that Multipliers usually appeared in large groups, so I was able to regularly collect enough to claim payouts and unlock The Wheel.
The Wheel & Hell Cog
During The Wheel, triggering Multipliers lock in place and other positions become independent reels. The round begins with three respins, and each time a new Unchained Multiplier lands, the respin counter resets. The feature ends when the respins run out or when every position is filled. If the entire grid is filled, the final payout is tripled.
As the bonus begins, a separate reel called the Hell Cog appears above the grid and unlocks one of its five modifier sections. With every respin, this reel spins alongside the main reels and can activate special effects. These are:
Ghost: Adds an Unchained Multiplier to an empty position and pays out its value.
Amplifier: Increases the value of one Multiplier on the grid
Transfusion: Adds a 2x boost to an empty position, doubling Multipliers that land there.
Echo: Copies an existing Unchained Multiplier to another grid position.
Surge: Unlocks the next Hell Cog section.
I loved The Wheel bonus; it kept the energy of my session up as new Unchained Multipliers reset the respins. The Hell Cog modifiers made each respin feel different too, especially when Echo copied a Multiplier or Amplifier boosted one already on the grid.
