Getting Ready to Dive

Before knifing into the water and commencing your marine exploration, you need to set your bet. The coin value in this game ranges from 0.01 to 5. The player’s total bet is adjustable by clicking the up/down arrows in the lowermost left corner, while the number of paylines played is determined by clicking on Lines. The Spin button, meanwhile, kicks the game into life, and the Auto options offers gamers the option of spinning the reels without lifting a finger.

Reel Deep Water

The symbols in Undine’s Deep fit the underwater theme perfectly. As such, you’ll find several different species of fish on the reels, including glowing jellyfish, orange starfish, goldfish and majestic seahorses. There are also unidentified shellfish, as well as a circular spiky creature whose name eludes us. And there are playing card symbols, although they don’t subscribe to the typical playing card features: thus, there’s no queen of hearts, no king of diamonds. The 9 through to Ace symbols are instead rendered in a dark grey colour. They look like lumps of cement that have fallen to the bottom of the sea.

Playing the Base Game

The object of the game is simple: land matching symbols to trigger pay-outs.

A set of scatter symbols shows up on all five reels, and as soon as at least three crop up at the end of any base spin, you’ll trigger the free spins bonus. 15 free spins will come your way, with a generous 3x multiplier attached. You can also re-trigger this feature by hitting three, four or five scatters during your complementary round. The scatter symbol is that of a flame-haired mermaid, and in addition to providing free spins, she also yields cash pay-outs – just like the wild.

The wild is the humble goldfish. This substitutes for all symbols in Undine’s deep, save for the scatter, and it also doubles pay-outs every time it’s used to form a winning combination. Needless to say, the playing card symbols are the game’s least valuable. All wins pay left-to-right except the scatter, which pays in any configuration. You must hit at least three of every symbol to trigger a pay-out, except in the case of the scatter, the wild and the Queen symbol: each entails a modest pay-out for just two symbols on an active payline.

Risky Business

Not all casino games offer a gamble feature, but when they do, it’s usually the old “pick a colour” routine, whereby the gamer has to guess between two colours. The gamble feature of Undine’s Deep is a little different; not a lot, but a little.

Clicking the Take Risk button after a pay-out may lead to a boost of one’s earnings, or act as a trapdoor placed under your booty. As the dealer reveals a random card, the player has to pick one of four face-down cards. If the card is higher than the one in the dealer’s hand, the sum is increased. If it’s lower, though, the amount is lost and the gamble round ends. Players can terminate the feature at any time by pressing Take Win.

How’s the Water?

There’s not a ton of information on the web about Undine’s Deep, so the best way to determine whether it’s for you is by playing for free at one of the many online casinos where it’s stocked. Like me, you’ll probably be fairly satisfied by the action if not exactly blown away. While the free spins and multipliers offer good value, and the graphics are above reproach, the game gets a little stale if you’re playing it for too long. In that respect, it’s like any casino game. Give it a go and see if your luck’s in.
