Open Sesame is nothing if not easy on the eye. The graphics are splendid, with a host of interesting symbols occupying the reels. In the background, we are treated to a view of an ancient city, an ornate temple in the foreground and shrubbery roundabout. The reels are fairly simply designed, a humble 5x3 grid with the various pay-line figures stretching down either side. Although there are 20 paylines, you can play on however many you wish.

Along the bottom of the screen, you’ll find all the usual controls. You can adjust your stake-per-line by using the red + and - buttons. Quite naturally, your selected stake-per-line will be multiplied by the number of lines you choose to play. Players are able to bet a maximum of 10 on each line, meaning a maximum of 200 can staked for every spin of the reels.

As always, the aim is to find winning combinations from left to right on the reels. Press Spin and the reels will spin at random. If you manage to find a combination of three, four or five matching symbols, you’ll win an amount outlined in the pay-table. Needless to say, the more you the stake, the higher your potential for winnings.

There isn’t an abundance of icons in this game – only ten, in fact, five of which are playing card icons, from 10 through to ace. The playing cards don’t supply big wins, but they do hit fairly regularly. You’ll win 30 for five 10s, 40 for five jacks, 50 for five queens and 80 for five kings. Five aces, meanwhile, furnishes you with a 100 pay-out.

As well as the playing cards, the game’s icons include a gold ring studded with a red gemstone, a princess, a prince and an Open Sesame wild. There’s also a Bonus symbol, represented by a minaret-topped mansion, and an Aladdin’s lamp scatter.

If you land three, four or five Aladdin’s lamps, you’ll be entitled to ten free spins. Not only that, but all wins during free spins are multiplied by three. If you win entry to the Aladdin’s Cave mini-game during free spins, and you still have one or more unused free spins, the game will return to let you complete your free ones after the bonus game ends. Incidentally, the free spins play out automatically: you needn’t press Play in order to continue the game. The free spins can also be re-triggered ; if you’re lucky enough for this to happen, the new free spins will be added to the number you currently have remaining.

Although the lamp is not related to figures in the pay-table, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the symbols can lead to some big wins – that 3x multiplier will could you leaping for joy. The wild could also put a smile on your face, as it can replace all other symbols (except the bonus and scatter) to help you form pay wins. The wild even pays 3,000 for five and 1,000 for four.

The Aladdin’s Cave bonus game is triggered when you land three, four or five palace icons in a row. The mini-game guarantees a win of some kind, but the size of the win depends entirely on luck. You must flash your torch on the spot where you think the loot is hiding. Once you’ve used up all your attempts, you’ll be shown a summary of your findings. If you unearth three Aladdin’s lamps, you’ve won the progressive jackpot as displayed on the running counter. Then you’ll be rich, yo.

Open Sesame is a fine game. With wilds, scatters, multipliers and a bonus game, you’ll be in your element. There’s even a double-or-nothing gamble round, which is available after every win. The gamble lets you quadruple up if you guess the correct suit, and what’s more, you can gamble just half your bankroll rather than the whole kit and kaboodle. Throw a progressive jackpot into the mix and this is one slot you don’t wanna miss.
