This is a 20 line slot (selectable), with 5 reels and 3 rows of symbols. You can bet from 1c to $2 per line – giving a spin range of 20c through to $40. The standard Rabcat auto-play option gives you the choice of super-fast play; this is extremely fast if you do select it. The gamble after win option is not present this time.
Like on many slots by Rabcat there is a big gap between the top paying symbol and the next biggest prize. In this cane the sword hilt is the biggest prize symbol. This is worth 2,000 coins for 5 on a line, with 200 coins for 4. Next comes Arthur, which is worth only 200 coins for 5. The black knight (50) and dark castle (25) are next on the prize list. There are playing card symbols, which have been beautifully designed to fit the overall theme.
The maiden is the only symbol with vivid colours – she is dressed in red, which contrasts with the greys of the other symbols. This is the wild, and expands to cover all 3 reels when landing in the middle. When Lady Guinevere combines with Arthur on the top row, you will win an ‘Eternal love’ instant bonus. Likewise, when Arthur and the Black Knight are next to each other on the top row, you get a fantastic fight animation, followed by an instant ‘Epic Battle’ bonus.
Shields are the bonus symbol, and behave differently depending on whether you hit 2 or 3 of these anywhere on the reels. If you hit 3, you’ll trigger the free spins bonus. If you get 2, they combine and an animation moves them to the spin button, where they become part of the ‘Bonus Bet’ once you have collected 12.
When you trigger free spins you are taken inside a castle. This is just as good graphically as the outside view, and Arthur stays in place. Your spins run through relatively quickly. Once you are done, you are taken to a separate screen, which combines your free spins winnings with those from the spin which triggered the bonus feature. You will be randomly awarded anything up to 25 free spins each time.
The bonus bet is a great extra, which is designed to keep you playing. Each time you get 2 shields, these combine and add to one of 12 segments on a stone surrounding the spin button. As they become a segment, a cash amount is displayed. When you have all 12, you are taken to a giant stone wheel which shows your cash amounts with a multiplier on a larger wheel surrounding this. You do not need to do anything, this spins on its own – stopping to reveal what can often be a big win.
I loved this slot, even after a single (long!) session, I am sure that I will be back many times. While the genre is nothing new, the way it has been put together is excellent. The graphics are stunning, with the life-like animation of King Arthur the highlight of this. Somehow Rabcat have managed to pull off the dark atmosphere of this game without going over the top or being deliberately gloomy. I love the bonus bet round (you can win up to 100x) and the free spins can also add some significant wins.
If you enjoy the medieval type slots, this is a serious must-see – check it out for yourself now!
