When I first opened Canyon Cash, it gave me a little Déjà vu, I spent several hours trying to figure out what it was about the graphics style which was so faimilar, and then it hit me, It is very similar indeed to the way the graphics are rendered on NetEnt’s amazing Spinata Grande slot machine. This isn’t a bad thing of course, in many ways it’s a compliment as Spinata is one of the most visually stunning cartoon graphics games out there.
With the rocky reels and icons of this slot set in stone, the sun bleached stone of the western deserts that is, the game really hits a nice tone. The game control buttons are nicely integrated into the rock work and the simple but vibrant colours allow the reels to stand out from the sandy desert backdrop and make gameplay easy to follow.
The low pay symbols are very standard playing card icons, but some serious work has been put into the high pay symbols, all of which represent an iconic character of the wild west. From the bleached smiling skull of a cow, an angry buffalo, or grinning rattlesnake to the stacked wild represented by a Sheriff, all are comically human in their expression and attitude.
Both your number of pay-lines in play and your bet size are adjustable, nothing trail blazingly new there though the flexibility is nice, you get auto-play, a pay-table and a decent size display which records your win and balance as you aim for wild west fortunes whilst prospecting in the outback.
It is, perhaps fittingly, the stacked wild symbols on this western slot, depicted by the sheriff’s character, which really give you a chance at collecting the big wins. On each and every spin, anywhere between one and three of the middle reels can turn completely wild to grant you a shot at making serious cash.
The wilds aren’t the only draw though, in fact it’s the free spins round triggered by three or more stuffed bags of cash which act as scatter symbols, which can really help you make it big out west. Whilst the spins aren’t massive in number, four scatters nets you only twelve of them, the wilds are still available in the spins round and further all wins come with a 3x win multiplier.
Canyon Cash might not be as ground breaking as some of ReelPlay's other slots, but by that benchmark, it doesn’t make it a bad slot either, in fact, it could easily be considered one of the best in the genre. It has a simple, stylish and fun theme backed up by an equally easy to follow set of gameplay features and decent cash rewards. I’m dusting off my Stetson and heading back for another go.
