    Crystal Cyclone Slot

Sometimes, the biggest developments in casino slot machines have very little to do with the actual slots themselves. Additional linked bonus features have become increasingly common on recent games, with everything from linked jackpots to bonus rounds that can be played by everyone at an island of machines being seen in live casinos these days.

One of the newest ideas to hit the casino industry is the Crystal Cyclone by Konami. Made to be usable with many of their classic slots, this is essentially a linked jackpot system that can sit at the center of a bank of any number of machines that players can sit at and enjoy. When one or more players triggers a bonus round, they’ll be able to watch as a physical ball game take place in the center area, where a variety of jackpots can be won.

    The Eye of the Storm

Unveiled at the 2016 Global Gaming Expo, the Crystal Cyclone video slot system by Konami is essentially a bonus system that can be combined with existing games from the developer to create a communal aspect to the action. While it is not yet available in live casinos, officials from Konami say that it could potentially support up to 100 stations, effectively allowing operators to create tables as large as they feasibly want in order to support this special feature.

The goal of this feature is to take traditional casino slot machines and add in some arcade-like features. Rather than allow everything to be determined by computerized random number generators, this option allows for progressive jackpots and other rewards to be given out to players using a mechanical wheel and balls located at the center of the console, which may be attractive to gamblers who prefer to see the action take place using physical objects rather than a mysterious RNG.

    Around and Around They Go

Here’s how it works. Once one or more players trigger a special feature, the Crystal Cyclone bonus game will begin. A number of balls will then be released into the center wheel, spinning around until they fall into any number of holes. In this mini game, some of these holes offer instant coin prizes that are of fixed amounts, while others are tied to progressive jackpots.

Of course, the jackpots need to be a bit harder to hit, so you can’t win them by just landing a single ball in the right place. In the demo version that we’ve seen, a dozen or more balls were released, and along with many instant credit prize slots, there were also three areas linked to jackpots: mini, major, and maxi rewards. In order to win the mini progressive, balls need to cover all three holes that are a part of that area; meanwhile, the major takes five to fill, while the high-paying maxi requires six locations to be hit on the same spin.

At the end of each bonus round, the rewards are totaled and given to participating players. Each of the non-jackpot positions tends to offer a pretty large reward itself, so even if they don’t win the top prize, it’s likely that players will generally walk away happy after each hit.

    A Wheel of Prizes

Once it starts appearing on casino floors, we think that the Crystal Cyclone video slot terminals will be a real hit once they start to be installed. There’s nothing more fun than having the chance to root for jackpots with other gamblers: that’s why games like roulette and craps are so popular. This is an element that is often missing when people play for real money on slot machines, and features like this one can help players have the chance to win real cash together. While we can’t guarantee that your favorite Konami classic slots will be a part of the lineup at one of these units, we’re still looking forward to getting a chance to play Crystal Cyclone.
