Lines of Magic is a five-reel, 20-line slot machine that features a sort of magical study theme. The backdrop of the game is a busy, cluttered laboratory, with a very contrasting set of red and blue colors making up most of the background palette. The graphics are sharp, hand-drawn, and for lack of a better term, have a magical look and feel about them – they crackle with energy, a feeling that is only enhanced by the slick, if understated, animations that accompany every win.

As usual, the object of the game is for players to make matches left to right across the reels. Players have the option of customizing not only how much they bet per coin, but how many lines they want to play and how many coins the bet per line (up to a maximum of ten). For lower-value symbols, you’ll need three in a row to score a win; some of the more valuable icons, however, do award small prizes for just two of a kind.

The lowest-value prizes come from matching the always popular card rank symbols, ranging from nines through aces. Bigger wins are awarded for colorful gems and flaming sevens (the most magical of numbers, or so they say). The most valuable of the normal symbols is the wizard himself, who can earn you up to 750 times your line bet if you hit five in a row.

There are several special symbols and features spread out throughout this title. First, a book serves as a wild symbol that can substitute for any other icon on the reels, or form its own prize winning lines. In fact, this is the way to get the biggest possible win in the game: match five books in a row, and you’ll receive 5,000 times your line bet.

Next up is a pentagram that acts as a scatter. Hit three or more of them on a single spin, and you’ll earn a prize equal to as much as 20x your entire spin wager. As an added bonus, all of these wins also come with 10 free spins, each of which pays out with a 2x multiplier, making them extremely valuable.

However, the most interesting bonus is one that you’ll work towards throughout the course of your play session. There is a potion symbol that can be found on the reels on any given spin. It can’t award prizes, but the game keeps track of just how many you’ve collected during play. Once you’ve picked up 35, you’ll trigger a special feature. At this point, you’ll get one free spin in which the first, middle, and last reels will be turned completely wild. This has the potential to earn you massive combinations, and with a little luck, you might even score multiple five-of-a-kind wins.

Lines of Magic is an entertaining and dynamic slot machine that we’ve really enjoyed reviewing and playing. While there may not be a whole lot of special features hidden throughout the machine, the ones that are here are used to maximum effect. The fact that there are huge wins is always fun, and we wish more titles would utilize features that rewards you for playing for a long time, like the potions feature here.

If you’re not really into magical themes or like more second screen bonuses, then this title might not be for you. But for solid action mixed with a lot of wizardly adventure, Lines of Magic is an excellent choice.
