Japanese Mystery Slots

Japanese Mystery is another offering by gambling giant Cayetano Gaming. As you can probably gather from the name, Japanese Mystery is a Japanese themed 10-line slot machine with a multi-tiered jackpot.

One of the main parts of the game is the mysterious spinning symbol that gives you a slice of some serious major bankroll. This mystery symbol is all over the place and when you land one it’ll spin and morph into one of the other symbols in the game.

The game features a massive jackpot of up to 5,000x the initial base line bet. The facts don’t line, Japanese Mystery is certainly bringing a lot to the table as far as slots play is concerned.

This game definitely looks impressive and has everything it needs to succeed, but potential, as most will attest, does not a great online slots game make. Let’s answer the big question once and for all, does Japanese Mystery have what it takes to live up to the Cayetano Gaming name?

Braving the fog

Japanese Mystery, if the name didn’t give it away, has a theme centred on Japanese life. The background of the game is a Japanese park shrouded in a thick-looking fog. The park features wooden bridges, rivers, stones, and beautiful looking red maple trees.

The reels are supported by robust looking buildings, which are built in the traditional Japanese style and provide a real treat for your eyes as you watch the symbols spin round.

There are no real major features attached to the game, which leaves it feeling pretty simple, while there aren’t a lot of icons to keep track of either. The base icons are standard playing cards. There are five of them overall going from 10 to Ace. The other symbols in the game are the Geisha, the lotus flower, the teapot, and a pair of sandals. Symbol to symbol this game really does have a certain aura to it, which makes it a must try title for that reason alone.

Fully stacked secrets

One really cool feature of the game is that the icons appear in a stacked mode. As a result there is a chance, albeit a very small chance, for all fifteen positions on the reel to be the same symbol. When a symbol appears on the reels then you’ll have between 1 and 3 of that symbols positions visible. It isn’t a huge featured by any means, but it certainly does add to the whole Japanese Mystery experience.

Grabbing the ‘Mystery’ prize

Sadly, the minor downside of the game is that there are only 10 paylines and each one accepts a bet of only one coin. Betting on every line takes 10 coins and the value of the coins ranges from between $0.01 and $10. As a result the total bet you can make is $100 and the top prize is 500x. That means that the largest prize you can win is $5,000. This game has such an all-encompassing theme, you really would expect more paylines to be included.

Follow the Geisha

If you want to reach that big jackpot of $5,000 then you’re going to need the Geisha symbol. Getting five symbols in a row gives you a payout of 500 coins. Because the game uses stacked symbols you can end up with these five Geisha symbols taking up multiple positions on the same reel. As a result you can line up winning combinations on more than one reel at a time. You could find yourself with 1, 2, 3, 5, and even 10 identical paying combos in one spin. It makes reel based matters a bit of a free for all, but a fun free for all at that.

Direct from the Far East!

While Japanese Mystery is clearly a good effort put out by Cayetano Gaming, it’s not as good as the brand’s other games like Time Warp and not everyone will feel it lives up to the Cayetano Gaming standards. It’s still worth playing a few games though, as it does carry some fun elements. It’s all worth it too if you manage to hit one of the bonus features. Even though it’s worth some of your time the question of why this game isn’t heading the slots charts is hardly a mystery.

Overall, it’s a unique game compared to what games of this level are usually like. Some of the features make it worth playing, even if only from an experimental standpoint, but you shouldn’t expect Japanese Mystery to be ever classed as a history maker.
