OK, so admittedly neither trench coats nor Tommy Guns actually appear in Slot Boss, but it has some very slick icons to match up and win nonetheless. It manages to sneak letters in – K doubles up as a black-suited man’s hand with gun, J is on a similar tip, whereas C and A also include women’s legs and stockings (nothing to do with the old department store though).
Then we have a classic American car and suspension bridge, whether it’s really New York or not is beside the point. On top of that there’s the obligatory glass of whiskey on the rocks, used bullet and, finally, white suited miscreant pointing a hand cannon towards the screen. The payouts increase in the order those were all listed, and that’s about all there is to it. Aside from the need to point out that we couldn’t love graphics on a gambler more if we tried; the drawings are basic but incredibly definitely very, very cool.
Well, kind of. Before you step out into the big, bad world of organized crime and the not so bad prospect of cashing in big time it’s important to know what you need to avoid – i.e. getting shot – and what you want to look for – i.e. a quick getaway when the police arrive.
In terms of stuff to avoid, you’ll basically want to stay clear of not matching anything up when you spin. In terms of what you want to get, basically three, four or five of a kind from the aforementioned pictures and symbols will trigger a payout, and the payout is determined on two things.
Firstly, adjust the Coin Size to increase the amount you want to bet at a single time. On top of this, you can also include more or less pay lines. These are the predetermined, left-to-right lines that symbols can be matched along. Obviously the more pay lines there are the more opportunities you have to win.
You wish. No, sadly this isn’t Grand Theft whatever, but it’s almost as much fun. Hit Spin once you’ve decided on your number and size of bet/s, and away you shall go, into the firing line of the murky world of grimaced smiles and backhanded deals involving fenced products and possibly (hopefully) bootleg booze.
As the first reels begin to move it’s worth mentioning that there are both Wild and Scatter symbols in this game, on top of all those mentioned earlier. Scatters are a very elegant woman complete with smoke in cigarette holder, and stacks of cash- both folding and jingle-jangle- represent the Wild. Scatters open up the Free Spin mode- land three for eight toll free turns, four for 40, and five for 80. Wilds can substitute for any other symbol, aside from Scatters.
Unlike many gamblers, Slot Boss doesn’t have any bonus games, but we kind of like its approach- straight to business, no mincing of words or love lost. Just like the Boss would’ve wanted, eh?
Play this game now. It’s the closest you’ll (hopefully) ever get to rubbing shoulders with Sicily’s finest (or most notorious?) and dishes out dosh big time for all the risk you’re going to be taking. Who said crime doesn’t pay...
