Cute and Cuddly

Cats is a slickly designed, simple but sharp-looking gamer that is far nicer visually than many of the older five reel slots on the market. Some are so tired graphically, but whilst Cats probably isn’t the most technologically advanced in terms of aesthetics and gimmickry, more than enough effort has gone into the design than is needed to ensure you don’t even think about escaping through the cat flap.

The symbols on offer are all different breeds of cat, so this might be one game to show that dog lover who still somehow believes pedigrees don’t really apply to felines. From big lumps of fur to Siamese, there are plenty of pretty recognisable species, which adds to the fun if you ask us.

Claws Out

Cats, of course, only pretend to be adorable little mites keen to snuggle up whilst you watch a film, or stretch their bellies out in the middle of that sunpatch in the living room. In reality they are miniature killers, and if you’re not careful they can do some damage to you with those razor sharp claws.

The same can be said about Cats the gamer, and so it pays to know what you’re doing. Start by adjusting the level of your Coin Value- increasing this basically means there will be more payouts when you manage to match symbols. Next, pay some attention to the number of paylines you want to play on- you can choose up to 25, meaning this gambler isn’t the biggest or smallest out there, but somewhere in between. The more paylines you play the more chances there are for you to match those all important symbols. Now hit spin.

Chasing Your Tail

This is where it gets really interesting, obviously- you’re actually playing now. As was mentioned above, the idea is to match up symbols of the same kind, each symbol corresponds to a level of coin payout, which is added to your overall wallet to cash out or re-bet later. The higher the value the harder it is to match.

There is a little more to this one than may first meet the eye, mind. Wild cards can substitute for any other in the game, other than Scatter and Bonus. The Scatter is a rat-like cat that’s probably quite used to sitting in the handbags of superstar divas, and gives you free spins and additional payouts depending on how it comes into play.

Bonuses are likely to be many people’s favourites, though. These are the Siamese cats, and when they appear you’ll be taken into a bonus round where you have to track down special catty icons to win even bigger payouts.

Feline Groovy!

Although the pictures used in Cats could be a bit cuter- you’re not likely to fall head over heels for any of these felines – we have to say it’s quite a compelling game to play. The artwork is clean and easy to get your head around in terms of what relates and matches with what, which, surprisingly, isn’t always the case.

Meanwhile, the extra bonuses and Scatter icons bring back that old sense of the traditional gamblers, which this may not necessarily look like when you first load the screen up. Ultimately, when it comes to five reel games there are so many on the market it really comes down to personal taste in terms of the design and little details – so if you love cats and enjoy a wager this is really ticking all the boxes.
