The juvenile looks of Aquatica don’t belie what the gameplay holds for us, even by one bit. The set-up of reels and paylines (5 reels and 9 paylines) is an ode to the land-based slot machines, but the house edge of approximately 4.9% is much lower than the same.

The problem with such limited number of paylines is that it robs players of potential combinations even before the reels go live. Apart from that, there’s nothing much that can be said about this set-up.

If you are expecting that the developers would have put in place some impressive wager options to make amends for the lack of lines, you need to stop thinking – because, your wish has already been granted.

The coin limit per line is one (which we don’t find anything wrong about), while coin value limits are set at $1 (bottom) and $20 (top). It’s not too often that we come across a slot that allows us to wager $20 per line, and just for that, Aquatica manages to score some brownie points as far as margins are concerned.

The symbols used in Aquatica all indicate an almost-fantastic submarine life where worries don’t exist and happiness is the currency (think the Bikini Bottom in SpongeBob Squarepants). From regular members of a card suit (albeit, decorated to suit the theme) to flashy and cheery fishes, the whole lot of regular symbols is just a treat for the eyes.

Water is the answer! Aquatica rises many feet high in stature when it starts to unveil what special bounty it holds beneath the waves in the form of special symbols.

The wild of Aquatica is a majestic submarine that – apart from letting you free-score combos at will by substitution – helps you net a whopping bounty of 5,000 coins for five-of-its-kind combinations. However, that doesn’t directly translate to $100,000 for max bets, as the base game jackpot has been bottlenecked at $5,000.

There is also one simple scatter here – the oyster with a pearl. The best blessing it can cast your way is that of 25 free spins that come through 5x appearances of the scatter anywhere in view.

It’s not a bad sort of catch. It’s the gamble feature of Aquatica we are talking about here. It is the classic Colours and Suits feature that promises to as much as quadruple your total winnings if your guesswork is on point. But play sensibly, it doesn’t take even one moment for luck to run out of gas.

Aquatica is a very enjoyable slot if you keep your expectations low. There is not a lot to be won here, and not a lot to keep you busy, either. But make no mistake – you can easily (and pretty safely) kill a few minutes pushing your luck with Aquatica.

What disappointed us the most is the upper cap of $5,000 on base game jackpots. Other than that particular point, the rest is well in-tune with what we had anticipated.
