Interestingly it’s these three (which appear to be a sat nav, a smartphone and a digital camera) that hold the highest value on the board - the latter can be worth anything up to 40,000. Although whether a GPS would actually fetch more than an original Roman helmet at an auction is arguable.

If you want to get to the Roman Age you must first collect enough coins and bonuses to activate the machine of time travel; you can bet anything from 0.15 coins up to a max bet of 30 coins. The number of free spins you can achieve depends on how many of the scatter symbols you land on a payline, but there’s between 5 and 25 free spins on offer, as well as anything up to a 5x multiplier on your wins. Landing two or more of the vortex symbols on a payline activates the time travel device. From here you can end up in three different locations, so fasten your seatbelt for a journey through time and space.

The first location you may end up in is the setting of a Renaissance painting in action, where you must fit together a puzzle Da Vinci Code style to complete said painting (although that’s probably not how Da Vinci did it). The second is less convivial - an amphitheatre, the type where the Romans used to throw Christians to lions. Open the doors and catch your reward whilst keeping an eye out for prowling big cats. The last location is in a totally different vein, taking you on an intergalactic journey to another planet. Yes, another planet.

Presumably this is a nod to time travelling forward in time to a future where we are better able to explore deep space, but it does seem oddly out of context here. This is a slot game though, not a narrative masterpiece, so if you don’t think too hard about it it’s all very entertaining. Instead, focus on the creatures you’ll find on this planet, because these creatures conceal prizes. Who knows, maybe the space exploration of the future will include hidden treasure among the indigenous life forms we’ll find there.

The time travel aspect of the Time Machine video slot is really fun and quite quirky. While it might take some patience to activate, the feature rounds offer a good deal of challenge and something a little bit different to other slots. Your play is accompanied by rousing music that adds to the already well-formed atmosphere and excitement of the game. The historical edge to it is really nice too, with plenty of throwbacks to actual occurrences in the recesses of time which give that extra bit of finesse to a satisfying and high quality game.
