Some of the icons that played a part in the first game return for the sequel. The cluster of bananas, after a tortuous negotiating period, signed on for Crazy Monkey 2, as did the butterfly (though it’s now blue, not red) and the monkey himself (still crazy after all these years). The snake is back, coiled into a new pose, and the Crazy Monkey logo returns. Now, though, instead of a gold skull, there’s a tribal mask. New additions also include a red toadstool, a bright green frog and a tropical bird.

Like the first game, Crazy Monkey 2 is available to play from as little as one credit per spin to 225. Users can opt to play using one, three, five, seven or nine pay-lines: each option is selectable at the bottom of the screen, where gamers can also check the pay-table, adjust their bets and hit the automatic start button.

As stated, the mask acts as the game’s wild, displacing the golden skull from the original Crazy Monkey. It functions in much the same way, being able to substitute for all of the game’s symbols. The only icon the wild cannot replace is the monkey, as this is the game’s scatter, serving to unlock the bonus game.

In addition to being wild, the tribal mask yields some pretty handsome pay-outs. If you hit five on an active pay-line you’ll win a whopping 2,000 credits. There’s 500 to be won for four, and 100 for three. Yes, the pay-outs are identical to Crazy Monkey. Can’t keep anything from you eagle-eyed gamers. The Crazy Monkey 2 icon pays the 5,000 jackpot for five, dropping to 1,000 for four and 200 for three. The game’s worst-paying symbol is the banana, which even after landing five pays a measly 10. Needless to say, there are plenty of bananas on the reels. You won’t slip on them, but you’re not exactly gonna be hitting the club on profits accrued from such combinations.

Yes, Crazy Monkey 2 does virtually everything its predecessor does, including offering a 50/50 gamble game. Those who hit a win in the base game are given the opportunity to double up their bank balance. Of course, once you land on the risk screen, you can always turn tail and return to the base game; but if you start to play, you’re locked in and the writing on the cards can condemn you to ignominy or hold the keys to a 2x multiplier.

In the risk game, you must choose one of four concealed playing cards. If your card is higher than the dealer’s, your pay doubles. If your card is equal to the dealer’s it’ll stay the same, and if it’s lower, you’ll lose your win. It’s all pretty simple stuff; it would’ve been nice if the risk feature was more than just flipping playing cards over.

A trio of monkey scatters activates the Crazy Monkey Bonus, which again involves the monkey tugging ropes; if bananas fall, you’ll pass to stage two; if he gets bopped in the head by a blunt object, the game’s done and so’s the monkey.

Stage two sees the monkey select a box of your choosing. You might win, you might not. The second bonus round is a little different from the one in the original game, though this minor alteration doesn’t make up for the fact that CM2 is identical in every other respect. The best we can say is, if you liked Crazy Monkey 1, you’ll probably enjoy the sequel.
