At first glance the new Hot Blooded slot shares many similarities with other WMS gaming titles, the low pay playing card symbols for instance are straight off the pre prepared shelf and are exactly the same as other WMS titles such as the recent Jungle Warriors slot. The music too, especially the big win sequences, is very formulaic. The high pay symbols are a decent collection of Gothic vampire style jewellery and it is this you will be looking to collect to extract value in the base game.

Fortunately, once the reels start spinning and the dark temptress arrives, in the form of lipstick framed fangs, it all starts to get far more exciting and interesting. Whilst there are many bonus features on the game it’s worthy of note that the base game is incredibly entertaining in its own right, purely through the use of the Vampiress Wild.

When arriving on a reel her icon is randomly accompanied by an arrow pointing at an adjacent symbol, at this point, like the vampires of yore, she will wildly transform (though not into a bat) in a great 3D animation which leaps off the screen and in the process of doing so will turn the marked symbol wild also.

A 6x4 reel slot with a transforming wild is always going to play pretty well in its own right, when you add a set of progressive jackpots into the mix you would forgive most manufacturers for calling it job done. This is WMS games however, and they were far from done, integrating a spinning wheel bonus was their finishing piece on this game.

As the reels rotate, some symbols have a moonlit shadowy background, when these combine, in sets of 3, 4 or 5, they trigger a corresponding bonus wheel on the upper screen of the slot. It’s here that you really get something you can sink your teeth into, with a variety of prizes on offer including the jackpots, win multipliers and varying numbers of free spins.

The WMS Hot Blooded slot has a lot to be recommended, the animations in particular are very good, cartoonish yes, but perfectly in theme with the slot and they really add some flash to the game given the basic low pay symbols and average music. There are a few decent sound effects associated with the Vampiress wild but we still think WMS could polish this up a little before final release, if they do, it promises to be a dark legend of a slot!
