If you have ever seen an online slot themed around Irish culture, you will be familiar with the green fields, rainbows, and pots of gold that sit behind the reels of the Rainbow Riches Megaway slots game. Gold coins sparkle in the sunlight and a traditional Irish pub to the left of the game provides a warm Celtic welcome.

We don’t think the Rainbow Riches Megaways slot machine soundtrack fits in with the whole Irish theme though. It’s made up of jingles and birdsong, which is a little odd, but inoffensive.

The symbols are in two main groups. Lower-paying symbols are the classic playing card icons, although they have a Celtic style to match the topic. You win higher prizes when the colorful gem symbols appear. The most valuable of these pays 50x your stake when it lands across all six reels.

A silver horseshoe can substitute for any playing card or gem symbol to help complete extra combinations for you, although it’s not worth anything on its own.

Unlike most Irish style games, the Rainbow Riches Megaways online slot doesn’t feature any leprechauns, harps, dark beers or lucky clovers. Whether you think that’s a good thing or not depends on your preferences.

The Rainbow Riches Megaways slot machine comes from Barcrest. However, it uses the Megaways™ mechanic under license from Big Time Gaming.

You won’t need a pot of gold to start playing the Rainbow Riches Megaways slots game, as stakes start at just 0.20 per spin. The maximum wager is 20.00, and there are numerous options in between to suit most bankrolls.

You have the option to spin the reels in Auto mode for up to 100x, although you won’t be able to pre-set win or loss limits. For our Rainbow Riches Megaways slot review, we tested the slot game out on all formats and found that it works just as well on desktop PCs, iPhones, iPads, Windows, and Android mobile devices.

Rainbow Riches Megaways RTP is 95.9%, which is on a par with some of today's most popular slots.

A rich gold frame surrounds the actual reels, but above the middle four vertical reels, you will find a horizontal line of four symbols. This is part of the Megaways™ system.

The Rainbow Riches Megaways slot machine gives you at least 324 different ways to line symbols across the reels for a win. But the number of symbols on any reel can vary from just two to a maximum of six. If the horizontal reel is active, the middle reels can have up to seven symbols on them.

At the highest possible number of symbols, the Rainbow Riches Megaways slots game has an amazing 117,649 different ways for you to land matching symbols on three or more reels to claim a prize.

Cascading Reels can lead to a whole sequence of wins from a single spin. Any symbols that are part of a win will be removed from the reels of the Rainbow Riches Megaways slot machine, leaving empty spaces on the reels. These don’t stay empty for long, as any symbols above will drop down to fill the voids, with new symbols appearing from the top. If that leads to any new wins, the reels cascade again, until no new prize-winning combinations appear.

The number of symbols on each reel remains locked throughout a sequence of cascades. Instead of dropping from above, symbols show up from the left on the horizontal reel. It can be a dizzying sight, but while compiling our Rainbow Riches Megaways review, we found that it is also one of the most rewarding features of this slot game

We have a couple more symbols to cover, and these special icons trigger further Rainbow Riches Megaways slot machine bonuses. A multicolored Super Gem symbol will transform all visible gem symbols, including itself, into a single type.

A golden pot Bonus symbol awards 12 free spins when it lands in four places at once. You get five extra spins for every additional Bonus symbol in view. Further free games will be added on when re-trigger symbols show up on the top reel at any point in the round.

While testing the game for our Rainbow Riches Megaways online slot review, we also found that it gives you the option to bank wins. Once you have 100x your stake in the bank, you can buy immediate entry to the free games, without having to wait for the Bonus symbol to occur.

If you feel that the luck of the Irish is with you, then go for the ‘Take a Chance’ option. This is a gamble game that spins a dial, awarding the free spins if it stops on the green section, and losing the amount gambled if it lands on red.

During the free spins, the Rainbow Riches Megaways slots game awards a rising win multiplier to any Cascading Reels sequence. The first win pays at the basic rate; then the second is doubled, the third tripled and so on. There is no upper limit to this, and the increased multiplier applies to any subsequent wins throughout the free games.

If you’re looking for a slot game with a more traditional format than the Rainbow Riches Megaways slot game, then Barcrests’ original Rainbow Riches slot is worth checking out. The basic five-reel, 20-line format still comes with several straightforward features to keep you entertained.

The Rainbow Riches Fortune Favours slot is another innovative game in the series. Mystery symbols and a Big Bet option that displays four sets of reels are just some of the exciting features.

Our Rainbow Riches Megaways online slot review concludes that Barcrest has packed a considerable amount into the gameplay. It’s probably not a slot for beginners, but if you are looking for an action-packed game that follows one of the most popular themes, it could be perfect.
