While the game loads, you’ll get to chill out in Madame Pain’s torture chambers, which features planks nailed crosswise to the wall and a wooden contraption with various ropes and chains strung about it, as well as a barred cage beneath. There is a pair of red high heels on the floor and a couple of mannequins’ heads on the wall, alongside a cupboard presumably brimming with, er, paraphernalia.

Playing the game couldn’t be simpler. Simply choose how much you want to bet per pay-line by toggling the + and – buttons in Settings. Hit Spin to spin the reels or Max Bet to activate all pay-lines. There’s also an Autoplay button, which enables the reels to spin continually for a select number of revolutions.

The reel grid appears in front of the aforementioned boudoir. All five reels are separated from each other by a chain, which hints at the kind of kinkiness going down in the lair itself. Along the bottom of the screen, you’ll be able to keep an eye on your balance, as well as on your bet and win amounts. Above the grid, you’ll find the all-important gamble button.

A funky little soundtrack accompanies every spin of the reels, and although it’s nice to hear something different when playing a slot game, even this cool beat gets tiresome after a while. Simply hit mute if it starts to grate.

Let’s take a look at the symbols, then. Refreshingly, Madame Pain eschews playing card icons, although only just: there are indeed card symbols, only no Jacks, Queens or Kings are in sight. Instead, we have a number 6, a number 9 (69, get it?) and the letters S, L, U and T. These are the game’s lowest paying. You’ll win 4.50x your stake for five 6s, 6x for five 9s and a mere 1.50x for S, L, U or T.

The game’s character symbols include a man with a dildo strapped to his face (naturally), a woman in a bondage mask, a naked female in manacles and the pert derriere of a sexy female in stockings. The chained-up figure pays best, 22.50x for 5; the masked woman pays 15x for the same number.

Madame Pain’s House of Pain is also home to a wild and a scatter. The scatter is Madame Pain, and she pays 45x for five or 9x for four. Moreover, the scatter triggers free spins: just land three or more anywhere on the reels.

The wild is represented by a woman in a bondage suit, and the icon substitutes for all symbols except the scatter to help you form wins. It pays 30x for five and 15x for four.

In a wonderful twist, Madame Pain includes one entirely Wild Reel (reel four) – all symbols are wild, except for one possible scatter. Wilds can also appear elsewhere.

After any win, you can hit Gamble to activate a Double or Nothing round. Thereafter, you can gamble up to ten times in a row, or until your winnings total 10,000. You can also choose to play a Split Gamble, whereby you can divide your winnings in half to gamble twice, or Collect 1/2, which lets you gamble with half your bankroll.

At any time, you can halt the gamble by hitting Collect or Exit. Be aware, though, you can’t access the Gamble game during Autoplay.

Madame Pain is one cruel bitch, but the game she’s spawned is a breath of fresh air. Shed your inhibitions and head along for a night you’ll never forget.
