Visually, Masters of the Sky is one of the most stimulating slots I’ve come across. Behind the reel grid, we’re in the night sky, with forks of lightning spearing down from the heavens. The reel grid itself looks like a wooden raft, ornately decorated along the edges with spears and tribal wood carvings. The logo of the game appears above the grid, and along the bottom you’ll find all the pertinent data, including stats for Balance, Bet and Win.

The Spin button is hard to miss: it’s actually a wooden shield in the centre of the control panel. On the right-hand side, you’ll find buttons for AutoPlay and Gamble, and on the left, a control for Max Bet. Players can play on between one and 15 pay-lines, and stake between 0.03 and 3.00 per line.

The soundtrack is interesting to say, the least. The music is somewhat difficult to pin down, though we think we’re correct in saying there’s a certain Celtic/folk influence: is that a violin we hear, and a ukulele?

Magic abounds on the reels of Masters of the Sky. Each of the characters has powers unique to its own symbol, though none of these cats look like they mess around. The prowess of each icon is viewable via the pay-table, which you can access via the control in the upper right-hand corner.

There are no fewer than five character icons in Masters of the Sky, as well as the same number of playing card icons, which stretch from 10 through to Ace. Thankfully there are no spades, clubs, hearts or diamonds: the letters of each playing card simply appear on a wooden shield. The best you can hope for when hitting these symbols is 450 for five Kings, Aces or Jacks, or 150 for four. Meanwhile, it’s 375 for five Queens/10s and 75 for four.

The character symbols include a long-haired god with horns, a mean-looking sorceress, a blonde-haired maiden and two grey-haired old geezers who resemble Gandalf and Saruman. The one manufacturing lightning with his fingertips is the scatter: land three of these anywhere on the reels to win free spins. The scatter also pays 2,250 for five and 675 for four.

Before enjoying some free spins, hit stop to determine which symbol will be the ‘expanding’ icon for free spins. (Note, you cannot choose the wild or the scatter.) After each spin, regular winnings are totted up. Thereafter, if the chosen icon appears three or more times, it will expand vertically to cover the entire reel. Winnings are subsequently counted again along all the active paylines.

The second powerful wizard is the wild: use him to help you form winning combinations, since he replaces all other symbols in the game except for the scatter. The wild also pays a massive 22,500 jackpot for five, or 1,500 for four. You can even win 225 for just three wilds in a line.

As is the case in other Booming Games’ titles such as March of the Mehteran, Masters of the Sky includes a gamble game. To have a go at doubling your money, just press Gamble after a regular win. If you’re the type to put your pedal to the metal, be aware that you can continue gambling up to ten times in a row, or until your winnings total 10,000. You can also stop the game by hitting Collect at any time. Note, you cannot access the gamble game during Autoplay.

Masters of the Sky is a solid 5-reel video slot with excellent 3D graphics, a tremendous pay-table and nice features, including free spins and expanding reels. Take your best shot in the land of the gods.
