There is no area of mythology in the world better known to us, or more popular, than that of the Ancient Greeks. Similarly, even with all the Asian, Egyptian and Mayan slots out there on the market, perhaps no epic slot theme is more prevalent either. Playtech have contributed a fair amount to this themselves ever since the original Age of the Gods slot was released. Fate Sisters makes that six separate games now which form the total range, at least, till they come up with another one.

Of course, the sheer scale of Greek mythology does allow for a different godlike story for each slot. Fate Sisters, as you may guess by the title, follows the story of the Moirai or ‘fates’. These three sisters, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos, together were responsible for controlling the threads of life. The Greek’s maintained that there were three great threads, Clotho span the thread of life itself, Lachesis measured the thread of length and Atropos would cut the thread to end a life. Not the cheeriest of themes for a slot!

However, clearly this trio of siblings held remarkable power, beholden only to Zeus himself, we can only hope that translates to fortune and fame to rival the Greek legends on this new Playtech spinner. With three progressive jackpots on offer, a free spins round and a secondary re-spin feature, it’s certainly intriguing.

Theme

There are four different reel backdrops and reel sets on the new Fate Sisters slot. With each of the sisters having their own dedicated Temple for their respective bonus rounds and one more for the base game to be played on. They are all classically Greek in design, with high columns and a wide open area which houses the reels. All the text on the slot is in the classic style of the period which is instantly recognisable, though, we’d prefer not to have seen so many low playing numerical icons.

The higher pay symbols are all in keeping with the theme, with the three sisters themselves offering the highest rewards followed by an icon relating to their individual gifts, or curses, depending on your perspective. Atropos life ending shears for example are a good secondary reward. There’s a fair selection of animation on the slot, with the fates guiding you in each of their temples. This makes us glad that Playtech went with beautiful Athena-like images for the ladies, rather than the hags they were often portrayed as in the authentic myths!

Gameplay & Features

The maximum pay-lines on the Fate Sisters slot is just 25, which you can decrease if you wish though, give the progressive jackpots are tied in to bet size, it’s worth playing the max you can on this slot. Minimum bet isn’t punitive, at just 0.01 per line and, it’s worth remembering that progressive jackpot slots like this are aimed at real cash wins rather than free play fun (Imagine hitting a progressive just to earn free coins).

There is a solitary wild on the slot which is fixed in the base game, formed by a rare golden coin featuring the images of the girls. The wild does get a bit more exciting in the free spins rounds however, playing differently in two of them. This brings us neatly to the feature rounds, triggered by three scatters and giving you a choice of which temple you wish to worship at. Atropos’ Temple contains no wilds at all, but does grant you 15x free spins with an increasing multiplier. The starting amount is fixed, anywhere from 2x-5x, each time Atropos appears on a reel other than the middle, it will increase by one, when she doesn’t it will decrease. When Atropos slots into the middle reel – an extra three spins are granted.

The two wild feature games are in Lachesis’ and Clotho’s Temples. Lachesis grants you 10 free spins with re-triggering frozen wilds. These stay in place for three spins when a wild appears, a further wild landing in the same position will start the process afresh. The same extra 3 spins are available in both games, which you might need in Clotho’s Temple as you start with just 8 spins. Clearly this is the most volatile round but, also potentially the most rewarding, 3 random wilds are added in this game on each and every spin, including any additional triggered with Clotho’s image.

Last, but very much not least on the Fate Sisters slot, are the four progressive jackpots. The jackpot game can randomly occur after any spin, which always adds anticipation to a game. Summary

The Age of the Gods series is a very popular one amongst Playtech’s catalogue of slot titles. Personally I’ve always favoured the Furious 4 version of the game but, there is plenty going on in the new Fate Sisters slot to tempt you away from the older games. The RTP is high and the variance sits so squarely in the middle that it just about manages to please all players. By having different volatility levels in the bonus feature rounds, Playtech are allowing players to decide whether they want a slightly safe voyage into the world of the Ancient Greeks, or a risky, but perhaps rewarding one.
