There’s great attention to the details in the design of this game, with an animated giant octopus, or the Kraken, busy wrapping its tentacles around the mast of the ship, while driving rain and choppy seas add to the drama. Any 3 of a kind on a line will pay out 5x the line bet, while full runs across the reels are worth 100 or 150, depending on which card symbol makes up the winning combination.

Higher prizes are awarded when any of the 4 pirates land across a line, starting with a cabin boy, (or possibly a girl, it’s hard to tell), who is worth 25, 125 or 500x when landing on 3, 4 or 5 reels at a time. Then we have a couple of grizzled pirates with huge beards and bad attitudes, who are worth the same as our cabin person, and at the top of the chain of command, we see an Oriental lady against a pink background.

While she may look quite moody, this top value symbol should please punters, as she only has to land on reels 1 and 2 across a line to return wins of 8x, while full lines of this character are worth a lucky 888x.

An Abyss symbol probably spells doom for the pirate ship, but it spells extra winnings for those spinning the reels, as it’s a wildcard, able to act as all except the scatter symbol if it’s then able to complete a winning line, although there’s no value attached to it on its own.

The scatter symbol is a rusty-looking compass, but it points to some free spins when landing in any 3 or more places at once. Before the 10 bonus games begin, there’s an initial award paid out, with 3, 4 or 5 scatters worth 2x, 10x, or 30x the total stake per spin respectively.

To help give these free games slightly better odds, the scatter won’t appear on the reels throughout them, so there are potentially more reel positions to land valuable symbols, but wins aren’t guaranteed in this round. At least the initial payment ensures that players end the games with more than they started with, and there is still the chance of landing some nice prizes before the 10 spins have finished.

Clash of Pirates by Evoplay Entertainment certainly has a nice design and impressive animations. It may not come with anything particularly unique in the way of bonus features, but wild substitutions and free games are familiar extras that will be welcomed by most people.
