After setting the line bet and bet level, there’s little more to do than hit that start arrow (or the autoplay button if you’re feeling lazy ) and watch the action unfold. You might be powerless to dictate which symbols glide into view, but you can at least empower yourself by getting acquainted with their relative values.
Control may be an illusion, but it’s a comforting one nonetheless. As the greatest Batman villain of all time (no, not The Joker) memorably put it, ‘Do you feel in charge?’ The best way to take charge with Rainbow is by genning up on the symbols. That way you’ll know whether to whoop with joy or grimace as each combo drops onto the payline.
Life can’t be all sunshine and rainbows, and that’s certainly the case in this 5-reeler from WorldMatch. Most of the symbols you’ll see are in fact floral: roses, daisies, marigolds and other unidentifiable flowers (to non-horticultural players at least) that look no less pretty for their absence of a name. Where there’s flowers, there’s insects and Rainbow is crammed with the little blighters. Cute they are too, especially the bug-eyed ladybird that forms the free spins symbol. There’s an equally cute spider who serves as the bonus symbol and finally the four leaf clover that’s the game’s wild symbol.
If you’re wondering where the rainbow element of the game comes into play, this is where: each of the clover’s leaves is rendered a different colour, which still leaves a few rainbow colours unclaimed admittedly, but let’s not quibble.
In truth, Rainbows is a misleadingly titled slot. It should in fact be named Spiders, for it is they who hold the key to this game. Three or more bonus symbols in any position will activate this feature. Select the ‘Start bonus game’ button from the toolbar and you’re off.
In the bonus feature, you’ll be tasked with making the spider blow on the rain droplets on its web. Doing so will reveal hidden flowers. As soon as you’ve notched two matching symbols, you’ll be awarded that win.
The game’s lowest scoring symbols are supplied by the playing card symbols - J, Q, K, A – which are rendered in sky blue with leaves clinging to them. Then it’s the flower symbols that rank next in terms of value, with the top spot going to the roses which are worth a paltry 50 for 3 in a row but a respectable 500 for 4 and 1,500 for 5.
Free spins, which come courtesy of the ladybird, can be achieved by securing 3, 4 or 5 in any position, which will result in the awarding of up to 15 free spins with a multiplier of 3. To activate them, click on the ‘Free spin’ button on the toolbar.
And that’s about all there is to know about Rainbow: it doesn’t feature a whole lot of rainbows, but that’s not to say there aren’t pots of gold to be won, or their monetary equivalent at least. The graphics are super-cute, the sound effects are pretty darn nice and the whole thing plays like a dream.
Is there a more upbeat slot out there? You wouldn’t want to bet against Rainbow. WorldMatch have pulled out all the stops with this one and they’ve come up with something very special.
