Someone clearly forgot to tell that to the developers of Magic Mine. Specialty Games are their name and they’ve come up with something a little different from usual in the form of Magic Mine. As they describe it, “Magic Mine is the world’s first true skill gambling game ”. It’s hard to say whether or not this claim is accurate, for there have been a bunch of skill-based slots released in the past 12 months, for instance, which debuted at casinos in Las Vegas and New Jersey. Regardless, Specialty Games may be right in the sense that Magic Mine is one of the first skill gambling games you can play at an online casino.

Magic Mine takes placed within a traditional nineteenth century mine, one in which wooden support beams are used to prop up everything and to frame the board. There are stalactites which drip from the ceiling (or is it stalacmites?) and blue flamed lamps which shed a modicum of illumination on proceedings. There are some subtle but very cool animations to be aware of too. Check out the glimmering mining cart or the purple dust that descends in the background. Because Magic Mine has been designed in HTML5, it’s a fully mobile-compatible game that should work smoothly on Android and iPhone devices.
This is a simple game to get into and the best way to get a feel for it is to hit start and watch as those jewels and gems descend to fill the board. You’re in very familiar territory here, for you will almost certainly have played a game just like this in the past, possibly Candy Crush or possibly one of the many clones which have sprung up in its image. Once the jewels have dropped into place, you’ll be given a number of moves in which to match up identical jewels and gems. Do that and they’ll burst, causing new symbols to drop down from above, flooding the reels with new symbols.
Whenever you successfully match up gems, they’ll start to stack up in your mining cart to the left of the board. As the height of the stack climbs, so will the value of the wins you’re awarded. It starts off at just a few cents but rises to $200 once you reach the top. Meanwhile, the various animations in the background add to the moody atmosphere. If you’re wondering how to master the game, and given that there’s proper money at stake that seems natural, consult the playing guide built into the game by clicking on the ‘i’ symbol. As it explains, you’re able to swap adjacent pieces by clicking on them in your quest to match three or more gems. Pieces you match will then be removed from play and new ones will be introduced randomly from above.
The process governing Magic Mine is a simple one, but there’s so much enjoyment to be derived from this game. While Specialty Games don’t deserve credit for coming up with this concept – because they didn’t – they do deserve credit for introducing it to the world of gambling. With your success hinging upon your ability to match identical jewels, it sure feels like you’re actually playing a part in dictating how much you win. Skill will only get you so far of course. If Magic Mine were 100% skill-based, you’d get good at playing it and then you’d profit from it every time.
In reality, if you were to play the perfect game consistently, all that would happen is the replacement symbols would become useless and you would find you were unable to generate sufficient matches to turn a profit. Nevertheless, the format is one which works a treat. Whether you choose to play for fun or play for real money is up to you. Just make sure you do play Magic Mine for this gem of a game is well worth a look.
