What is the Kansspelcommissie License?
The KSC was established in 1999 as a part of Belgium’s Gaming Act. Under that legislation, what had formerly been a mostly unregulated online gambling landscape came under the purview of the KSC, which now oversees all licensing for both land-based and remote gaming. This even includes foreign operators who want to offer gambling online to Belgian residents.
In that role, the KSC primarily issues licenses to land-based operators. These licenses come in several difference classes: A for casino operators, B for gaming arcades, F1 for sports betting, and so on.
Only operators who already have a corresponding land-based license can then apply for the equivalent online license. A license that allows for online games carries the + designation; for instance, KSC casinos online require an A+ license.
The KSC is required to monitor the gaming industry in Belgium, as well as enforce its regulations, including by working with internet service providers to block unlicensed websites from offering online gambling in the country. The commission can impose penalties and punishments on those who violate the terms of their licenses, and also serves as an advisor to the Belgian government on matters related to gambling.
