What is the Alderney Gambling Control Commission License?
An AGCC license is given to online gambling platforms operating under regulations within the laws of the island of Alderney. It is a certification from the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) that shows iGaming platforms and sportsbooks meet standards for player safety, data protection, game fairness, responsible gambling, corporate frameworks, and anti-money-laundering (AML) controls.
The license is one of the most respected globally and makes it mandatory for online gambling sites to submit to audits, public registries, and ongoing supervision.
Alderney’s framework for regulating casinos and sports betting began with the Gambling (Alderney) Law, 1999. The AGCC itself was established in May 2000 to regulate electronic gambling on behalf of the States of Alderney and to position the island as a reputable jurisdiction for remote gaming. Since then, the organization has gained more powers through the Alderney eGambling Ordinance and Regulations (2009) and other updates to address modern changes in iGaming.
The main role of the regulator is to oversee all electronic gambling within Alderney’s jurisdiction to ensure “honest and fair” operations. Alderney Gambling Control Commission casinos are given either Category 1 or Category 2 licenses to show their compliance with laws. The AGCC demands that licensed operators ring fence player funds to keep them separate from corporate operations, while also enforces independent game fairness tests.
While an AGCC license covers gambling businesses operating and founded in Alderney, it also influences international markets, with many license holders having cross-border operations. Alderney is a Crown Dependency with its own legal frameworks, so a license from the AGCC is not a UK-related legal regime.
