Well, as mentioned, the visuals are basic as it gets. Super Hot 7’s looks and sounds like an 8 Bit video game from the 1980’s, whilst I don’t mind the look of it, the audio needs muting instantly, especially the scatter symbol sound effect that screeches harshly through the brain. Even by Novomatic’s standards it’s a poor effort, you may actually reach the point you miss their other generic audio filled machines.
The symbol selection is pure fruity, so there are Cherries, Oranges, Grapes, Lemons, Plum’s and Melons with the addition of the Super 7 of the game title and a scatter in the shape of a star – note, there is no wild in the base game. One thing all this simplicity does have in its favour, no matter how dated your playing device, the game should run seamlessly and, without the bells and whistles, it’s easy to follow on the smallest mobile screen.
There are just 5 pay-lines on Super Hot 7’s, fixed in place. You do get a lot of room to manoeuvre with the bet range though which has more than enough in it to keep the high roller satisfied. This is key with a classic fruit machine if it offers good payout potential, which Super Hot 7’s definitely does, though you won’t find it in the base game unless you manage a 5 of a kind combination with the 7’s for 40000x your bet – highly unlikely.
In fact, the base game is brutally sparse, we span through over 100 spins before finally hitting three scatters to trigger the bonus round. On the surface it seemed like small reward, with just 14 free spins allocated but, suddenly, in this bonus round, Super Hot 7’s comes to life. For a start, the 7 symbol from the base game is now wild, a welcome addition and it doubles any win it completes.
It isn’t the big draw however, as the scatter now forms a retrigger and, as it was already a high pay symbol in its own right, this is a rewarding mechanic. Not only that, but if only two scatters appear, a reel re-spin is triggered, even if you miss a 3rd scatter, this has the potential to fill in the gaps in your missing pay-line combinations.
Super Hot 7’s is about as pure a gambling game as you can imagine, there’ no real strategy to it outside of deciding whether to gamble your small wins in the base game using the playing card gamble feature. Outside of that, it’s mostly hanging on grimly in the base game in the hope of hitting an epic spins round before your bankroll is exhausted. This is the epitome of high risk / high reward, which will no doubt find it loved and loathed in equal measure.
