Getting started

The action in Magic Lines is spread over three reels and there are five paylines in total. The return-to-player percentage, truth be told, is rather low at 92%. If you’ve come to this page to learn about a thrilling game which includes wild symbols, autoplay modes, multipliers, random jackpots, scatters and free spins bonuses, we’re going to have to be that guy – the bearer of bad news. Magic Lines is so old-school that it doesn’t care about satisfying you with bells and whistles: it cares more about bludgeoning you with bells and fruit symbols.

In Magic Lines, players can stake a maximum of two coins per line, with the maximum coin size set at 20. The minimum number of coins per line is, of course, one and the minimum coin value is 0.02. Based on my calculations, the maximum line bet is therefore 40 credits, for a maximum bet-per-spin of 200. The top prize, meanwhile, is 800 credits.

As far as visuals are concerned, Magic Lines follows the aesthetic framework of old-fashioned pokies from the 80s. That is to say, there is a 3x3 reel grid, and to the right of that, there’s a pay-table, showing the corresponding values linked with finding three matching symbols. The icons really need no introduction, but in the interests of clarity, we should tell you that they include pears, lemons, oranges, blueberries, grapes, bells and cherries.

It should be said that the pay-table offers very little differentiation between symbols, and by very little, read: none. Matching combinations of three identical symbols pay out to the tune of 20 coins. As such, there’s no top jackpot to focus your attention on. Instead, you’ll need to make do with the one special feature, such as it is.

Repeater feature

Are you impressed by this game so far? Yeah, thought not… but hold up! Where you going? This review ain’t finished goddammit. We haven’t even talked about the Repeater feature. The Repeater feature activates whenever you hit three matching symbols in a line.

The Repeater panel is located above the standard three-reel grid. It shows a circuit of arrows, within which are tabs for Bet, Win and Credits. Alongside the circuit is a separate panel, which shows several red arrows pointing upwards. What you have to do, essentially, is hit the Start/Stop button while both the Stop sign and the arrows are illuminated. If you manage to do this, you’ll progress to the next round. In round two, you will have access to a separate feature, during which you must press Stop when the lights are at the Repeater symbol. If you manage this breathtaking feat of human daring, you’ll win double the normal pay-out. As such, this is a bonus round that actually rewards you for your somatic ability – it’s all about timing, see, not luck. Speed and skill are the order of the day here, so here’s hoping your reflexes are cat-like.

The end of the line

Magic Lines is a pretty average slot game, truth be told. Given how crowded the market is, it’s a wonder games like Magic Lines even still exist – then again, the fact that they do indicates that some gamers like old-school slots better than the innovative new titles. If Magic Lines sounds like a game you can enjoy, there’s nothing stopping you from giving it a go. Who knows, you might even win 800 credits.
