Before you board the jet, you’ll need to determine your bet. As stated, many coin sizes are supported; you can stake as little as 0.01, if you wish, although you can bet a maximum of 250 per spin. It all depends, of course, on your level of risk – the game is tailored for both bold and modest players.

Setting your bet, incidentally, couldn’t be easier. The control panel takes up residence along the bottom of the screen, where you can also configure your pay-lines. The 5x3 reel grid appears in front of a background showing the sky during sunrise, the colour of which lends itself to the title of the game. It’s a rather simple backdrop, but the reels themselves are rendered in fine detail. The icons are cartoonised, well-sketched illustrations relating to life lived at 30,000 feet. Icons include an air hostess waving a gloved hand, a golden pocket watch, a tumbler of alcohol (we all love a tipple when soaring through the heavens), a red passport and boarding pass, an alarm clock, a parachute (hopefully you won’t be needing it!), an old-fashioned camera, the eponymous Amber Sky single-prop plane, a window seat and a couple of old-fashioned valises. All symbols pay left to right, as normal, except for the scatter and jackpot symbols.

Refreshingly, the game does not include any ubiquitous playing cards, the presence of which detracts from video slots with carefully-crafted themes.

Although Amber Sky does not include any wilds or multipliers, it’s far from basic. Three or more plane icons, for instance, loads the bonus game, where you can choose from a range of eight different destinations on a weather-beaten map. Depending on your choice, and after the airplane has landed on the region you selected, you’ll be assigned a number of free spins up to a maximum of 25. Three, four or five jackpot icons on an active payline triggers another bonus game, where it’s possible to scoop the silver, diamond or progressive jackpot. You’ll be shown a 3-level jackpot wheel, with jackpots on the left-hand side and jewels on the right. Hit the Start button to make the wheel revolve, then hit the Stop button to, well, stop it.
