Space Monsters looks like a great many WorldMatch slots, in that the control panel is arrayed along the bottom of the screen. You’ll find all the usual buttons to regulate your bet, with coin values numbered at 0.01 up to 1, and the paylines determined by the player: you can wager cash on 1, 5, 10, 15 or 20 lines. As such, the maximum bet-per-spin is 20 credits. All symbols pay from left to right, except the scatter, which pays in any position. Only the highest win per line is paid.

The 5x3 reel grid comprises transparent columns set against a blue backdrop pocketed by stars and dominated by an unknown planet. The planet tends to drift left and right, orbited by other, smaller planetoids to create a sort of planetarium vibe. Funky music plays as you spin the reels, and symbols animate and roar in triumph when you find them in combination.

You’ll be able to keep track of how much you’ve won by keeping an eye on the Win tab along the bottom of the screen. Your bet, meanwhile, is recorded in the lower right-hand corner.

There are 11 symbols in Space Monsters, and praise the heavens, none of them are playing cards. That’s right, all symbols accord strictly with the galactic critter theme. Eight of the icons are monsters of some description. It’s kinda difficult to describe them, so you’re best clicking into a WorldMatch-supporting casino and playing the game in demo mode to see for yourself.

Suffice to say the monsters come in various shapes, sizes and colours. There’s even a winged, bug-like monster, a cuddly cat-like critter and a muscular lizard-esque monster.

Among the regular monster symbols, the best pay-out is 500, for five of the orange, turtle-like variety. You’ll win 100 for four and 50 for three. The lowest-value monster pays 75 for five, 15 for four and just two for three.

Special symbols, meanwhile, include wild and free spins icons. As well as being able to substitute for all monster icons, the wild pays the highest sums in the game, which is usually the case in WorldMatch slots.

The wild here pays 12 credits for two, 200 for three, 2,000 for four and 7,500 for five. Note, these values are true if you are playing at max bet; if you’re playing with smaller coins, like 0.10 or 0.20 per line, you can expect to win more modest amounts. It’s always worth deciding your bet then clicking into the pay-table to view the relevant pay values associated with your wager.

The free spins icon triggers – what else? – free spins, but it also supplies modest pay-outs, including five credits for two, 10 for three, 75 for four and 250 for five. You need to land at least three free spins symbols to win free spins, the number of freebies being 15. During the bonus round, all prizes are multiplied by three.

Not all slots have a bonus game, but this one does. The occurrence of three or more alien bonus game icons activates the mini-feature, in which a squad of little green men will come flying towards you. Space Monsters is an enjoyable enough slot game, one which is fairly typical of the software company that spawned it.
