Revolution Slots

Viva la revolucion! OK, let’s make no bones about it, Betsoft’s Revolution video slot is not quite deserving of such an epic moniker. The game is unlikely to change the course of human history, for one. But that’s the case with most slot titles, is it not?

This one has four reels and a single payline and includes both an autoplay mode and a two-tier game board. Launched in 2014, Revolution is one of those pesky fruit-themed slots which unites all your favourite casino symbols of old – cherries, lemons, stars, BARs, bells and the rest. It also includes click-clacking reels, and if flashing lights give you a headache, you’re probably gonna wanna pop a few paracetamol before spinning!

There is a two-tier layout to Revolution. On the lower level, you’ll see the 4-reel grid, each drum separated by a golden frame. To the right, a running tab records Credits and Win amounts, and below, you can view the pay-table, which outlines the win amounts associated with combinations of two, three or four matching symbols. The goal, as ever, is to find matching symbols from left to right on the reels.

The upper level has increased bet amounts of 5, 10, 20 or 40 coins, and it also happens to offer much bigger prizes, with a jackpot totalling 1,000x compared to 200x for the lower game. Your goal in the upper level is to spin the revolution wheel of fortune and find the highest possible payout. Even if you don’t manage to hit the massive 1,000x top prize, there are amounts such as 800, 600, 200, 160 and 120.

You’ll find many useful controls below the pay-table, including buttons for Collect, Reset and four separate Hold controls, ideal for when you want to hold a reel in place to help find a favourable combination. There are also buttons for Choose Bet Head and Auto, the latter of which sets the auto spins in motion.

Old school symbols

As stated, symbols in Revolution comprise many staples of the genre. The icons are not photorealistic but they are bright and colourful, and they hark back to the good old days of playing the fruit machine down the local free house. The symbols include pears, watermelons, lemons, strawberries, BARs, grapes, blueberries, 7s, oranges, stars and cherries. After any win in the regular game, you’ll be shown two flashing coins – one representing heads, the other tails. If you wish to gamble, simply click on one and hope for the best. You’ll either double your dough or lose the lot, so proceed with caution.

Another quirky feature in Revolution concerns the presence of sticking symbols for the next spin. For instance, if you spin two lemons, you’ll not only win a payout of 2 credits, but the reels on which the lemons were found will remain stationary for the next spin, thus improving your chances of hitting a combination of three (or four) lemons. Perhaps lemons is a bad example – the bell symbol would be better!

Find three bells and you’ll win 100… But you’ll also have a terrific chance of doubling up, to 200, during the next spin.

The highest paying symbol in the game is the golden bell. This one pays 20 for two, 100 for three and 200 times your bet for all five. Next up is the BAR, granting 12 for two, 64 for three and 128 for four. Next along, it’s the watermelon, yielding 8 for two, 32 for four and 64 for all five, followed by the grapes, paying 4 for two, 16 for three and 48 for four. Indeed, there are no shortage of combinations to be found in Revolution – there are 36 in total, far more than most slot games. That’s because there are 12 separate symbols.

Raise a fist for the revolution

You’ll probably already know if Revolution appeals to you. Perhaps the lack of scatters, wilds and free spins has you running for the hills, but maybe the game’s old school flavour is just what you’re looking for after months of playing fast-paced, 3D slots. For our money, Revolution is eminently respectable, a three-reeler which offers solid prizes, an autoplay mode, sticky reels and a wheel of fortune.
