In Super Joker, the coin denominations range from 0.02 to one credit per line, meaning the maximum a player can wager per spin is 10 credits, since the machine accepts up to two coins per line. This is quite a healthy betting range, so the game should appeal to a wide swathe of players.

In Super Joker, there are two tiers. The lower tier features the 3-reel grid and tabs for all the regular controls, including for Bet, Max Bet, Collect and Spin. There’s also a pay-table on the far right-hand side, showing pay values for cherries, lemons, watermelons, bells and treasure chests.

The upper tier shows another pay-table, this one for the level-up round. There’s also another 3x3 grid, and a super meter counter at the very top of the screen. The whole split-screen format is a lot to take in, from a visual point of view, but one can get used to the layout rather quickly.

Betsoft have stuck to a well-worn formula with Super Joker, so the symbols are as follows: oranges, grapes, cherries, bells, jokers, watermelons and lemons. Dat nostalgia.

If you’re betting one credit a spin, you’ll win 10 for three cherries or lemons, 40 for three watermelons, 100 for three bells and 200 for three chests. If you wager ten, which is the maximum, you’ll win double the aforementioned amounts.

The split-screen super meter is activated when you manage to spin at least three jokers on the bottom slot machine. At this point, the top set of reels will be kicked into motion, and all winning combinations formed come with increased prizes. The goal, of course, is to continue spinning winning lines in order to keep the super meter mode active. Easier said than done, granted, but it’s what you’re aiming for.

If you don’t manage to hit a winning combination, the lights in super meter mode go dark and the ones on the lower grid light up: you are back to the base game.

Unfortunately, there are no multipliers or free games offered in Super Joker. The lone symbol with any special significance is the joker, as this triggers the bonus game. The joker also pays the highest sum in the super meter mode: 2,000 for three in a line, when played at max bet, or 1,000 when played with a single credit. The sums for the other symbols are as follows: 1,200 and 600 for bells; 500 and 200 for grapes; and 200 and 100 for oranges. You’ll also earn 2,000 and 800 for three triple 7s, 1,000 and 500 for three watermelons, 400 and 200 for three lemons and 200 and 100 for three cherries.

Super Joker has much to its credit. It really is hard to argue with a 2,000 jackpot, or even 1,000, which can be won even when a player stakes a single credit. The game is very much targeted at low rollers or casual players, but should appeal to all those who cherish the 3-reel format, with its click-clacking reels and flashing lights.

With that being said, based on our tests, you should probably expect to wait a while for wins. Hitting a matching combination of three symbols in the base game turned out to be surprisingly difficult – disappointing considering the base game’s more modest pay-outs. The best advice, then, is to go in with modest expectations and hope for the best.
