The WWE is no longer trying to get sports betting markets for its pre-determined matches, abandoning plans first publicized in March 2023.

The popular professional wrestling federation, now under the ownership of TKO Group Holdings, spoke with state regulators regarding potentially allowing betting on matches and worked with Ernst & Young to try to create a tight-lipped system.

concerns over the misuse of inside information

The Chief Operating Officer Mark Shapiro confirmed in a conversation with CNBC journalist Alex Sherman that “it’s not happening.” He referenced the difficulty of keeping winners of Golden Globes and American Music Awards secret when he worked for Dick Clark Productions, with certain states allowing wagering on big award shows despite concerns over the misuse of inside information.

He confirmed that the company won’t ask WWE creative lead Triple H to “keep his scripts so under wraps that we can start sports betting.”
