Iowa State University (ISU) quarterback Hunter Dekkers is now facing a permanent NCAA ban if found guilty of betting on college events. The news comes just one week after former ISU alumni, Eyioma Uwazurike, was suspended indefinitely from the NFL for betting.

Cyclones starting QB Dekkers stands accused of placing bets on 26 ISU sporting events, including “a 2021 football game against Oklahoma State when he was the backup quarterback as a sophomore.”

the QB used a DraftKings account to place digital sports bets totaling $2,799+

The Des Moines Register reported the Story County Attorney’s Office’s criminal complaint against Dekkers, with charges relating to an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation probe into sports gambling. The complaint alleges the QB used a DraftKings account to place digital sports bets totaling $2,799+.

Under strict NCAA rules, Dekkers faces a permanent ban if the charges stick. Iowa State University Senior Associate Athletic Director, Nick Joos, said the body was “in the process of gathering information” and that it would comment no further at this stage.
