Denver Broncos defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike was suspended indefinitely Monday for breaching the league’s rules on gambling during the 2022 NFL season.

“We were informed by the NFL that Eyioma Uwazurike has been suspended by the league indefinitely for violating its gambling policy,” the Broncos said in a statement Monday. “Our organization fully cooperated with this investigation and takes matters pertaining to the integrity of the game very seriously.”

will not be eligible for reinstatement until at least July 24, 2024

Uwazurike was already confirmed to have placed bets on NFL games. He will not be eligible for reinstatement until at least July 24, 2024.

The 25-year-old was a fourth-round selection of the Broncos in the 2022 Draft. He played 165 snaps across eight games last year and racked up 17 tackles, a blocked kick, and a pass deflection. He was in line to challenge for more snaps behind Zach Allen and new arrival Frank Clark.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton previously spoke about the confusion surrounding the NFL’s gambling policy that has already led to the suspension of nine other players. “The packet we received [from the league], we looked at, studied [it] closely, and then we presented it in our own PowerPoint,” said Payton. “I probably had 20 minutes on it to really make sure everyone has it.”

“If you’re a teacher and half your class gets a D, you better look at yourself. It’s not the policy, but it’s the implementation, the understanding, and the educating of the policy.”
