We barely knew ye
ITV Win, the online gambling site of the UK’s largest free over-the-air commercial broadcaster, will soon shut down. According to industry reports, licensing and operating partner Richmond Atlantic is out of money and will itself be closing shop. ITV Win, which includes bingo and “spins,” its online slots offering, will close on May 5.
geared more towards a casual gambling audience
ITV Win only just launched in January, promising what it called a “relaxed” internet gaming experience, as its slots and bingo were geared more towards a casual gambling audience. The site already had a “prizes” section, which is essentially a low-priced raffle site to win high value prizes like cars and vacations.
The company expected about half of its first-time depositors to be existing ITV Win players and slots to be the primary revenue generator.
Taxes just too much
But with Richmond Atlantic going down, ITV Win has just a week left. The licensee puts the blame on what it calls “unsustainable” tax increases in the UK.
And it was quite unfortunate timing. Richmond Atlantic won the five-year ITV Win contract one day before the gambling industry tax hikes were announced. On April 1, 2026, the Remote Gaming Duty, which affects online gambling like slots, skyrocketed from 21% to 40%.
“Sadly with the tax rise that was announced in November and became effective this month, despite a number of mitigations that we put in place for early trading, it has become clear that the business is not able to continue in the new tax environment,” said Richmond Atlantic.
The company had been looking to sell, but could not find a buyer. According to NEXT.io, BetVictor parent company BVGroup was in talks to acquire Richmond Atlantic and, in turn, keep ITV Win alive, but a deal never came to fruition.
Though Richmond is the one going out of business, other companies are affected by the decision. Gaming Innovation Group provided the ITV Win platform, and Pragmatic Play, perhaps best known as an online slots developer, supplied the site’s bingo product. Neither will have a result as severe as Richmond’s, but they will certainly suffer a revenue hit.
