The group of conservative Protestants is meeting in Dallas this week. There, members of the denomination will be urged to approve resolutions calling for a legal ban on porn, a reversal of the US Supreme Court’s approval of same-sex marriage, and curtailments to sports betting. They also want lawmakers to introduce policies to promote childbearing.

The Southern Baptists believe the resolutions are based on the biblically stated order of divine creation. The laws “reflect the truth of creation and natural law – about marriage, sex, human life, and family,” according to the group.
Some of the resolutions have plausibility given that conservative allies currently have a strong position in Washington amid the rise of conservatism. For instance, Mike Johnson, speaker of the House of Representatives, is a Southern Baptist and third in line to the presidency.
The group are strong supporters of President Donald Trump, who has already introduced controversial policies including cuts on taxes, food aid, and Medicaid. Protests are currently taking place in Los Angeles over Trump’s decision to launch ICE raids to arrest hundreds of illegal aliens.
