Police in China have taken down a major online gambling ring.

Authorities in Yunnan Province arrested 93 people on Sunday as part of their sweeping crackdown on illegal gambling. More than 900m yuan (US$124.6m) was involved in the operation, with the ringleaders running seven platforms.

Zhaotong City police originally learned of the operation back in 2021, receiving intel about an online gambling ring that was dealing with significant sums of money. A task force was then set up to look into the matter. In an important breakthrough, police located the internet technology company that made the gambling platforms.

Following the long-running investigation, police raided nine properties over the weekend. This led to the 93 arrests, as well as the seizure of 27 computers, and 80 mobile phones.
