News source Las Vegas Locally has joked “Sheldon Adelson is livid” after the Culinary Union announced it had struck a deal with two of the late billionaire’s ex-Sands Corporation properties on the Strip to permit non-gaming staff to unionize, if they wish to.

The now Apollo Global Management-owned Venetian Resort Las Vegas and sister property The Palazzo, represented the last two non-union properties on the Strip. The Culinary Union took to Twitter to share a joint statement by the Bartenders Union, Operating Engineers 501, and Teamsters 986:

While Adelson had a long-time beef with unions, Sands sold the Venetian/Palazzo to Apollo in 2022, so he shouldn’t be turning in his grave that much.

The Culinary Union also posted a press release on its website, stating it had history working with Apollo in Las Vegas and other US cities and that it was hopeful the thousands of employees at the ex-Sands complex “will have the opportunity to choose whether to unionize while management remains neutral and respects their choice.”

The Culinary Union concluded it and others looked forward to introducing “the Las Vegas union standard […] to the Venetian and Palazzo workers.”

The union cited 15-year floor attendant veteran with the Venetian, Gladys Henderson, as saying: “….my coworkers and I are excited for what the future holds for us and are grateful to have this opportunity.”
