Fun, unserious slot
Online slots players who play purely for the entertainment of it all have a new game released by Relax Gaming this week that should fit the bill. Guitar Quest, launched May 27, is one of the flashier online slots around, combining a look reminiscent of the Guitar Hero series of video games (down to the very similar font and bonus game) and an attitude that echoes Tenacious D.
geared more toward the slots-as-entertainment crowd
The theoretical return to player (RTP) of Guitar Quest is a fairly standard 96.5%, but it is categorized as a high volatility slot, so players should expect some slow sessions and dry spins while waiting for the potentially lucrative bonus rounds. Hence why this may be geared more toward the slots-as-entertainment crowd (as most of us really should be).
Cartoony rock, punk feel
Guitar Quest mixes traditional slots imagery – cherries, bells, 7’s, and the like – with a combination of heavy metal and punk aesthetic. A rocker companion of sorts accompanies you via his raised fist in the lower left corner, and he provides encouraging hand gestures when the reels work in your favor.

An equalizer in the upper left offers a random chance of one of four spin enhancements, such as multipliers and wilds. They won’t trigger very often, but when they do, they can provide a nice boost to winnings. As with most modern online slots games, you can also pay extra for a “Super Charge,” like guaranteed equalizer triggers, better chance for a bonus round, and even a guaranteed bonus round.
Choice of bonus rounds
Speaking of those bonus rounds, Guitar Quest is unique in that when you activate the bonus, you get to choose between one of two games. The coolest is “Solo Mode,” which mimics the Guitar Hero video game. Multipliers, boosters, and coins come flying down the screen in five columns, and a Collector Bar at the bottom moves to catch them. If it catches a battery, the time limit on the game extends. Naturally, the more things it catches, the more money you win.

It should be noted, though, that the Collector Bar moves at random. Unlike in Guitar Hero (or its cousin, Band Hero), you do not control the action. It’s still an online slot game, after all.
The other bonus game option is “Back Stage.” This one is your more traditional-looking bonus round, where you start with at least eight free spins and one equalizer enhancement. More equalizers can be added and more free spins can be earned by landing enough of the skull scatter symbols that allow you to reach the bonus round in the first place.

Guitar Quest is not an online slot for the faint of heart as its high volatility to get you, but if you can handle that, the cartoony graphics, silly voice lines, music, and animation can certainly entertain.
