A man has been jailed in the UK for 26 months after crashing into a stationary car while gambling on his phone. Scary enough as the incident was, it also caused a pregnant woman to give birth prematurely. Jack Bentley admitted to driving into the other car in April 2025 in Derbyshire.

Witnesses say the 30-year-old’s vehicle was swerving between lanes before the crash. Dashcam footage showed the moment of impact, as Bentley’s Ford Focus plowed into the stationary traffic.

The woman fractured her pelvis and had to have her baby prematurely; the child was put into intensive care.

she missed important early moments after the birth

Two other children in the car also suffered injuries, as did their dog. The woman, in her victim impact statement, explained that she missed important early moments after the birth as the baby had to be put in an incubator due to a collapsed lung. She said it was a very traumatic experience, especially as it was her first pregnancy.

Investigators analyzed Bentley’s mobile device and discovered he was using online gambling sites at the time of the incident. In addition to the prison sentence, he cannot drive for more than three years.
