A hoax bomb threat temporarily closed the Comanche Nation Casino over the weekend. The phone call received before noon led to an evacuation and a sniffer dog being brought in to clear the property. The bomb squad search began in the parking lot before moving inside for around three hours.
law enforcement has yet to identify a suspect
After the bomb squad found nothing, gambling resumed at the casino by 5:30pm. Other tribal casinos were subject to similar threats on the same day. The Comanche Nation’s Red River Casino and Hotel in Devol was also impacted, in addition to Chickasaw and Kiowa casinos in the area. Comanche Nation Information Director Jolene Schonchin confirmed that law enforcement has yet to identify a suspect. The FBI will assist with the investigation.
This isn’t the first time Oklahoma casinos have been on the receiving end of bomb threats. In July 2023, the Outpost Casino and Indigo Sky Casino & Resort closed temporarily after someone found a bomb threat note in a bathroom. Once again, this led to the evacuation of the properties, and bomb squads found no devices after their searches.
Non-gaming properties have also received hoax threats in recent weeks. The Duncan Regional Hospital is about 30 minutes from the Comanche Nation Casino, and it has received two bomb threats over the past week.
