Despite only being available in nine states and as yet having nothing to do with prediction markets, the Seminole Tribe-owned Hard Rock Bet has bitten an impressive chunk of sports betting market share off the vertical’s leading pair, FanDuel and DraftKings.
Sports Betting & FinTech Acquisition entrepreneur James McLoughlin took to LinkedIn on Tuesday to publish the latest top 13 “most downloaded sports betting apps in the US.”
Kalshi was the number one app most downloaded, with McLoughlin labeling its record of 35,000 downloads a day “insane.” Daily Fantasy Sports brand Underdog was the US’ second most downloaded sports betting app for the period.
McLoughlin, who’s known as the ‘App Marketing Assassin,’ placed Hard Rock Bet in third place as the most downloaded sports betting app over “the last 30 days.” McLoughlin, however, said the tribe-owned sportsbook was the clear no.3 over the period, and that Hard Rock Bet:
doubled the downloads of BetMGM.”
The digital entrepreneur stated that he was “genuinely impressed by Hard Rock Digital growing 40.2%,” which means the brand has taken a chunk of market share from US sports betting leaders FanDuel and DraftKings.
The challenge to the big two is more impressive considering that despite its near monopoly of the Florida sports betting market, Hard Rock Bet only operates in eight other states, namely Illinois, New Jersey, Arizona, Ohio, Colorado, Indiana, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Via their prediction market business, the likes of Kalshi and Underdog claim to offer sports betting markets in all 50 US states.
