A bettor has stunned people on social media after staking a substantial amount of cash to win very little.

$25,000 on the Pittsburgh Penguins to beat the San Jose Sharks

The anonymous gambler staked around $25,000 on the Pittsburgh Penguins to beat the San Jose Sharks in the NHL on Saturday. His wager, placed on prediction market platform Polymarket during the game, stood to return just $25 if it was successful.

Sadly, for that bettor, the Sharks completed a crazy comeback to beat the Penguins 6-5. @verrissiumus posted a screenshot of the wager on X:

Another X user called @holy_moses7 joked: “On the bright side, he might win next time and be on -$24,975.” @Hrundel also saw the funny side, commenting: “Bro just wanted to earn money for cheeseburger… and lost a car…”

The Sharks rallied from down four points in the third to beat the Penguins in overtime. The team scored five straight goals after Pittsburgh gained their 5-1 lead at 5:25 of the third.
