Waymo is introducing its driverless robot taxi ride-hailing service in Las Vegas next summer. The Alphabet-owned company will become the city’s latest robotaxi operator to announce its entry:
Waymo is already up and running in Austin, Atlanta, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. As well as entering the Southern Nevada market, it has plans to also roll out in Detroit and San Diego.
Waymo has been piloting its vehicles on Las Vegas roads in 2025
This news isn’t a total surprise, as Waymo has been piloting its vehicles on Las Vegas roads in 2025. It was using this as a test case that could help boost its offering in other regions.
Commenting on the full-scale launch plans for summer 2026, a blog post on Waymo’s website said that “one thing you shouldn’t gamble on is road safety.” Nevada has a track record as being a dangerous state for drivers. Waymo claims that its driverless vehicles are five times safer than human drivers.
Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley welcomed the news, saying that the driverless technology “is not a science experiment” and has proven itself to be a safe alternative.
Waymo will have competition in the market. Zoox was the first company to launch in Sin City, although it has experienced a few hitches, including a crash caused by a software glitch.
