Fighting talk

YouTuber and Betr founder Jake Paul is talking tough ahead of his November bout with undefeated WBA lightweight champ Gervonta “Tank” Davis despite being the underdog.

plans to “disable tiny boy”

Davis represents Paul’s toughest opponent yet; the two will face off on November 14 at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena with Netflix exclusively streaming the bout. “Problem Child” Paul took to X on Wednesday, admitting Davis was one of the “top pound-for-pound boxers in the world,” while adding that he still fancied his odds and plans to “disable tiny boy”:

Being around 65 pounds heavier than Davis and never short on confidence, it’s no surprise Paul likes his odds. On Wednesday, though, Sports Betting Dime revealed projected odds based on early market indicators have Davis coming in at around -180 to Paul’s +140.

Experience tips the scale

Davis’ 65% odds of winning compared to Paul’s 42% may change once the rules and weights of the fight are made known. Major US sportsbooks are expected to jump on the market with official odds once fight specifics are published.

In the meantime, the projected odds aren’t being tempted by Paul’s impressive weight difference or his stature: he outstrips Davis’s height and reach by eight and 8.5 inches, respectively.

Instead, the handicappers are looking at the Baltimore native’s record of 30-0-1. Davis has beaten elite contenders along the way, such as Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin, with his wins including 28 knockouts for a 93% finish rate.

Conversely, while Paul’s record of 12-1 includes seven knockouts, they didn’t come against the same caliber of fighters Davis is used to, aside from a Mike Tyson way past his best.

Roll on November

Oddmakers are, however, aware of the huge weight difference, and if Paul uses his bulk to dominate Davis in the early rounds, they could be sweating an upset.

top fighters among Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences”

Paul relishes making doubters eat their words, setting up a clash spiced up by a long history of callouts and rivalry with Davis. MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian stated on Wednesday that the pair has “redefined the professional combat sports landscape as the top fighters among Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences.”

“Now they will collide to determine the true face of boxing’s next generation.”

Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series and Sports Brandon Riegg stated the November showdown isn’t “just a fight, it’s a spectacle that brings together two of the most electrifying figures in boxing today.”
